Question about 1999 Audi A6

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 1999 Audi A6 Avant. The steering wheel squeals when I turn left or right. I had the steering pump replaced. It stopped after replacing it and then started again shortly after. Took the car back in and the mechanic disassembled everything again and check the steering rod and can't find the problem. Any suggestions?

The pulley tentioner on the power steering belt, i ve done lots of them, they are self tentioning and over time can cause to much tention on the belt, if this the case when you have the steering at full lock it should squeal the loudest.

Where are the fuses on my 1999 a6

For Audi A6 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.

This is a manual transmission? If so the clutch probably needs to be replaced. When you say "VIOLENTLY" what is going on, what is the road speed, what are the RPMs at? The more specific information the better. And this problem ONLY occurs between gear changes, right? The other times, everything is normal?

When I go to turn the wheel in my 2000 ford ranger I hear loud squealing noises. I checked the power steering fluid and its full. What can it be?The squealing starts as soon as I turn the wheel to the left...

The power steering pump is normally connected or driven by the engine with a V-belt. A loose belt can cause squealing as soon as the power steering come under load (e.g. steering left or right while stopped).

Check the tension on the V-belt directly connected to the power steering pump. This may need replacement.

Hoep this helps.

1999 a6 steering wheel melting...!

On the extreme left of the dashboard where the door seems to make contact with the dash, there is a "D" shaped panel that can be pried off by sticking a very thin screwdriver or similiar object in the notch. Once the panel is off you will see a cluster of fuses from 5 to 30 amps. On the panel you removed you will see a label indicating which fuse operates which electrical component and the size of the fuse. The fuse that operates the heated steering wheel warmer should be # 27. You may find that the fuse is not blown but for some reason the warmer is not working. For safety you can still remove the fuse. I think in the Avant this fuse also operates the rear windshield wiper.
