Question about 2004 Toyota RAV4

1 Answer

My son just paid $4300 for a complete engine rebuild on his 2004 Toyota RAV4. The "Check Engine" light kept coming on and at first it was determined that he had a computer problem. So the shop technitians reloaded the software into the computer and this solved the problem temporarily. When the light came back on they said that the head gasket needed to be replaced. Now after all this work and expense the "Check Engine" light continues to come on. He's totally disgusted and running out of options. Any suggestions?

Traction control light and vsc light on,i was told it could be a gas cap not being tightened enough,is this true

When the lights come on a fault is stored in the computer, you will need to read this fault to determine the cause.

Keep in mind that you need to have the codes pulled for the check engine lamp. Anytime a fault is detected and the check engine lamp comes on then both the VSC and Traction control systems are disabled/shut down by the computer as a "fail-safe" function.

Hope helps.

2002 Toyota Rav4....check engine light""is

Here are two of the most common causes of the check engine light.

Most common, MAF ( mass air flow ), sensor. A faulty MAF prevents the computer from determining the correct fuel/air mix ratio.

Oxygen sensor. ( front and rear, front meaning before the catalytic converter, rear meaning after the catalitic converter. The front measures the fuel/air mix being sent through the catalitic converter, the back measures the emmisions and lets the computer know if any fuel/air mix ratios need to be adjusted. Both of these can trigger the check engine light.

I hope this helps you.

I have a 2004 toyota rav4.yesterday the vsc trac light and check engine light came on.the vehicle idles fine but when you depress the gas pedal there is alot of hesitation.

My solution is to get rid of this car immediately!! I had that happen to me. I had my mechanic check it and it was fine about 2 weeks later the car completely died because there is a defect with the 2004 Rav4 2.4l 4cyl. engine. Toyota never recalled this defect and now I am stuck with a car that is worth NOTHING. The top of the engine is put on with a metal/screw that is too soft. It separates and then antifreeze leaks out forcing the car to overheat. There is really no way to fix this besides dropping a new engine. I am stuck without a car and at a total loss. I will NEVER buy a Toyota again. Good luck!
