Question about Ford Mustang

1 Answer

I have a 1990 model mustang Gt 302. It sat up a while and we charged the battery and it started fine. The battery would not keep a charge so we put a new battery in it. Now it will not start, it will turn over but will not start. We checked the fuses they are all good and we changed the plugs. Not sure what to look for next. Darla

I have a 85 mustang gt and the battery will over charge when i drive it .put in a new bat, voltage reg, alt, bat cables .need help!

You would think that the problem would be solved after changing all of those parts!

The voltage regulator should keep the voltage below a certain level. Even though you changed that, I would be suspicious about the quality of the part.

I would try another brand of voltage regulator.

Have the starting and charging system analyzed at Walmart or your local parts store to see what it charges at under load.

Good luck to you.

Have you crossed the wires? If the starter solenoid is stuck, then replace it,and make sure there is ground to engine block, and to the frame, and body,be sure the connections are clean,,shiny clean, and tight, charge the battery up on a slow charge, for a couple of days,or replace the battery, low voltage will cause this situation.

Check for fusible links close to the battery, they may be just wires or they may look like giant fuses. Use an electrical tester to see if current is passing through them. Also you can try using a screwdriver to connect the main bttery power at the starter to the cellunoid to check that it will start. Just make sure it is in park or neutral and the emergency brake is on.

Race car came with no Engine wires all unhooked to Charg/start

The simplest most reliable ever made by any auto maker was the GM 10SI alternator. It has a large stud terminal in the back and a two wire connector in the side. Run a large wire from the battery to the stud on the back. Take the red wire in the connector put a ring terminal on it and attach it to the stud in the back. The white wire in the connector needs to be connected to one side of a small incandescent pilot light the other side of the light should be connected to a 12 volt source that is turned on and off by the ignition switch. If the bulb is off while the car is running and on when it isn't running then the alternator is working. This is simplest charging system anyone ever put in a car. The Ford IVR is similiar but has more wires.
