When this happens, are the gauges dropping or not working properly or at all? Check the alternator. May not be charging so everything is running off the battery. The battery is used mostly for starting, but the alternator recharges the battery, so if after driving for a short while, and alternator not charging, everything electrical will drain the battery. You can sometimes drive the car for a while when this happens, or if the alternator goes out completely, the car will not run at all.

Charging system failure

Most probably the alternator brushes are worn.
My second guess would be either the alternator's voltage regulator or bridge.

Although the computer said "charging system failure", you were able to drive the car, but all the electrical systems (headlights/taillights, power control unit, injectors, ignition etc) were powered by the battery current instead of the alternator current. The alternator wasn't able to recharge the battery and power the devices due to its failure.

After a couple miles you've discharged the battery to a point where its voltage was insufficient to power the instrument cluster (thus the speedo and fuel meter went down to zero). The engine's computer, injection, ignition and, let's call it "airbag controller", are far more critical for the passengers' and vehicle's safety and therefore were still able to work despite the battery voltage being so low. But some time later the battery was discharged to the point it was unable to power these most critical devices and the engine stopped.

When I first start up my 1995 Toyota Corolla 5-speed, there is a whirring noise. It seems more prominent when the car is cold and when I turn the steering wheel at that time. Also, the battery light has...

for the whirring noice, check for the power steering fluid level, if it's low refill with power steering fluid to the propper level. If the level its fine and the noise continues you have to tighten the engine belts via the tensioner bearings. As for the battery light it's probably letting you know that the alternator is failing, when the light comes on it means that in that precisse moment the alternator isn't charging the battery and that could lead you to a dead battery. (The alternator has a line that it's in charge of activating the battery light if this cable is loose that could make the light go on, secure that cable and if the light never comes on then the alternator is fine) Hope that helps

Battery keeps draining

if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

It seems the charging rate with the lights 'on' is rather low, this usually happens if the alternator diodes are weak or totally failed.
Best would be to get the charging rate without the lights 'on' and thn with the lights 'on'.

The abs light came on and air conditioner started blowing hot. After work the batt was dead. Jumped it and guages were dead for about 30 sec. About 10 miles later abs light went off and air got cold again....

It sounds like the engine is running on battery power only. The engine of today`s technology needs the alternator to have enough ignition to run on,lights and computer, etc, will be affected by low voltage, and amps. The alternator is not charging, look for a charging fuse to see if it is blown. If the fuse is fine, replace the alternator, and have the battery recharged on a slow 2 amp charge so it will recover it`s loss of deep cycle amps. This will prolong battery life and alternator. If I can help let me know.Let me know the out come.

Battery light comes on, but everything checks out

Did anyone check the charging system while the car is running? Measure the voltage at the battery, it should be around 13.5VDC. If it is below 13V, your alternator is not working. Replace it with a good aftermarket model from Autozone or Advanced.

It is cheaper and more reliable to replace the alternator than to rebuild the one in the car.

check battery cable for tightness and no corrosion.if all is well charge the battery or jump start it. while engine running check to see if the alternator is charging it.it should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts while engine idling.turn off engine battery voltage should be 12.5. if drops to 11.0 to 10.0 volts.battery is weak.if car running the voltage should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts alternator is charging. if the voltage is 11.8 to 11.0 volts. alternator is not charging.

2006 Corolla LS battery continual drainage

difficult to accurately *****, you need to get the charging checked, even though you have a new alternater the problem could be as simple as the charging light not working, which causes the alternater to initiate. or you may have an electrical component staying on draining the battery.

Brake lightand battery light came on and a/c getting warmer

Your charging system is not working properly. Most likely the alternator is going bad. If so your battery will die soon because it not being charged by alternator. Check belt first then check charging system if fine get back to me and I will be glad to provide more assistance if needed. If not replace alternator., problem solved. Good Luck
