Hello,

Your 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier transmission fluid can be checked by using the dipstick you will see under the hood in the engine compartment.

However,You add fluid directly through the dipstick tube.

General Motors recommends using DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid.

Good luck

1999 Chevrolet does not have a trans dipstick it has a drian and fill plug.
You need to remove the drain plug with the engine running to see if you have enough fluid. This is donr by removing the lower drain and see if anything runs out with the engine running if not fill on top. There is supposed to be a red cover somewhere underneath the master cylinder. Use a flexible funnel.

Hi,
Actually, to clarify this problem; In 2005 GM introduced Dexron VI to supercede all previous versions of fluid to use in automatic transmissions. You can continue to use Dexron III, and it will work fine in your older application. However, Dexron VI is backwardly compatible. This newer specification of ATF is supposed to handle heat and shifting better than the older fluids.

Your dipstick/filler tube is located up near the firewall center for most V6 engines. I hope this adds a little more info for you.

Thanks, Bill

Case moves forward and backward no lift on loader

Hi James:
The forward and back comes from the transmission,
The loader is from the hydraulic accessory drive.
On my old Case it is a Cessna pump located at the front of the engine, driven from the crankshaft.
The first thing to check is to see if you have had a hydraulic failure. Pool of fluid under machine?
Then check the reservoir to see if there is adequate flouid in it.
Then check the pump and drive for failure.
It is also possible that the linkage from your loader control has become disconnected. Let's hope that's what it is as that's the easiest to repair.
Cheerfuls.

I have a 1997 astro van it doesnt want to cacth the gear to go reverse all other gears work except reverse do i need a trans mission rebuitl or do i need a reverse gear???? please help money is tigth can...

Odds are yes you need a transmission, reverse is usually the first gear to go out, There is a chance that you could replace the tranny flouid and filter and may help. Thats up to you , this would cost around $60 , A rebuilt tranny could run you around $800 at least depending where you are located. A used one at a salvage may run you around $ 150-$250, And cost at least $200 for labor to replace.
Sorry wish could give you better news, Good luck to you.

How i can measure the level of automatic transmission flouid

almost every car: With the engine running (and preferably warmed up), pull the stick and check the level against the markings on the stick (if it's cold it will show lower than warm or hot)

If it's a car like my 1998 Sunfire with the 2.4l engine - there's no stick, so you have to have it running and warm, and on a level surface, and there's a little plug on the side of the tranny housing you can pull out to check - the level should be right up to the level of that plug.
