SOURCE: 2001 mazda protege will not start

well, with all that you have changed the only two possible things that are left PCM and the ECM....

Do you have an alarm system on this vehicle? If you purchased this car second hand it may have something that is inhibiting the engine from firing. From what you have told us here that would be where I would start looking.

I really hope this is helpfull

I have a 94 olds 88. I also need to change the valve cover gaskets. I was wondering if you ever found a solution to your problem.

SOURCE: will not crank and backfires

Hopefully, it is a mis-timing of the ignition and not an improperly installed timing belt or chain. The latter cold be fatal to the engine. I suspect that was not a cheap replacement so I wouldn't delay having it checked.

Engine cranks but won't turn over

Without much detail in your post I offer these refreshers: An engine needs AIR, FUEL, & SPARK. Quick checks, (for the often tempermental/sensative Rover works) if you like to try before posting more info would be: a) AIR - check wiring to Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) which is built in to your air flow tube between primary air filter and intake plenum. Be very careful to not touch the thin wire screen you will find once opening this section of air flow tube. The screen is the receptor for temp and airflow sensors that the BeCM (brain) uses to adjust the fuel to air ratio at the injector. Spring for a can of MAF sensor aerosol spray from your local auto supply. Usually about $10. Read and follow instruction on the can exactly.
b) FUEL - Determine that you have fuel pump/pressure. Turn ignition one click short of cranking (position 2) and you should hear the hum of the in tank pump for 2-3 seconds stopping with a beep indicator from the dash area. You can also check for pressure at the fuel rail which is an aluminum tube that sits on top of the engine, above the valve covers on each side. On the passenger side fuel rail you should see a valve similar to a tire fill valve. With engine off and a heavy towel handy to absorb any fuel expelled, carefully depress the center needle of the valve just as you would to let air out of a tire. Keep yourself out of the line of fire, the squirt can go about two feet. If you have pressure. Repeat the fuel priming procedure a couple times to restore pressure. With engine off repeat the valve pressure check at fuel rail. If you have pressure again your pump is at least working.
c) SPARK - you may need a second set of eyes or someone at the ignition for this one. Pull the wire and plug from a cylinder on the passenger side of engine, i suggest the #8 which is closest to firewall. with the plug attached to wire place the sparking end near a frame bolt, engine mount or other grounding point, secure it there with a clamp or clip, then have your helper crank the engine. Lights off helps, you should see the electric spark arcing on the ground point as the engine cranks. IMPORTANT-do not hold the ignition wire while cranking and crank just long enough to determine spark and no more.

Hope this helps, it will get you started anyway.

It turn but want crank

ignition coil or module check for spark. pull wire off of plug with insulated pliers then hold it close to say the valve cover or a bolt and have someonelse crank it. no spark then check crank sensor, coil, module, or timing belt

Where are spark plugs in a 2001 laser

There is a cover in the center of the valve cover that is held to the valve cover with 5 or 6 bolts. Remove those bolts and remove the cover. You will see the spark plug wires. The spark plugs will be accessible when you remove the plug wires. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

2001 ford taurus with the 3.0 after sitting a few hours when i go to start will crank and crank and crank for what seems like ever, will start easily after that but when i go to start it for the first time...

Its not the oil, increasing temperature will thin out the oil. If it cranks easily but won't start it could be the spark plugs or the spark plug wires. When they heat up, especially if they are old, they won't perform well. Pull off one of the wires and hold it close to the plug, try to crank the engine and look for a spark. If it sparks them try removing a plug and check to see if it looks wet. If its bone dry it might not be getting fuel.

Toyota 4x4 with 22r motor ,engine will crank but will not start

Check plugs and wires for ware or loose, if they are good is it cranking fast enough, if not have your battery tested. If battery good check positive battery cable and clean up any corrosion on battery or were it attaches to the starter, also check to make sure the cable is good. Still not cranking fast enough check grounds or you may need to add one between frame and the block. If still not fast enough starter may be bad or you need a battery with more crank amps. If it is cranking fast enough, get somebody to turn the key to check the coil. Pull wire that is in the top of the distributor that goes to the coil and hold it near the valve cover and have someone turn the key, if it sparks the coil is good if not replace the coil. If coil good are you getting fuel, can you hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key or change the fuel filter. Sometimes the vent on the gas tank gets plugged, remove cap to vent and see if that helps get fuel. If everything checks out and you have good crank, you have spark and you have fuel, get out your pocketbook you will either need a mass airflow sensor or a computer.

My honda accord died while driving, and will not start, tried replacing fuel filter, there is fuel pressure and it cranks over but will not start

What you're describing could be a broken timing belt. To check the timing belt, if there is not a visual inspection hole, you will need to take off the timing belt cover or the valve cover.

The other possibility is a ignition/spark problem. Check for spark by pulling one of the spark plug wires, and look for spark as the starter is cranked. If no spark, check the distributor wiring and connections, If all good, it may be the ignition coil has gone bad.

Also, to be sure you are getting fuel, pull one of the spark plugs. You should smell fuel coming from that cylinder after the engine is cranked.

2001 Ford Taurus - won't start. Cranks really good but engine won't start. Tested with good battery, fuel pump, plugs & wires. Car was driven daily. All of a sudden just didn't start no more. I was...

Lots of possible choices... but junk yard coil as a replacement (easy for you to do) can eliminate that potential problem for just a few dollars.

If that fails, have a friend help you confirm that you have spark - by pulling a plug wire and holding it against (near) a good ground. If it sparks over 1/2 inch - it is not spark.

If that fails, pull a plug wire off a spark plug. Crank the engine for 10-15 seconds. Now remove and inspect the plug for gas wetness. If wet, it is not fuel flow.

If that fails, it could be timing, timing belt, or a large number of other issues - most cheap to fix but time consuming to locate.

Do the above tests then come back and let us know what you find!!
