I have to put it in nuetral with my foot on the gas so it want go dead. 2 days ago my check engine has started coming on and going off. Any Ideas?

If its been awhile since a good tune up it may be time, change your spark plugs wires fuel filter, air filter, and cap and rotor then see what happens.

worth checking the fuel tank for holes or there might be some fuel delivery pipes leaking badly. Or it might be an O2 sensor not giving correct signal to ecu thus consuming so much fuel.

im sure your check engine light is also have1of 3 problems your iac motor is bad this controlls your idle, its stuck ,dirty with carbon or broken its on the throtel body.#2you have a intake vacum leak most times you can hear it. sounds like a sucking whistel sound. #3 somtimes low fuel punp press can cause idle and no start condition.stop and have your truck scaned for codes almost all parts stores will do this free.i would make sure you did not bump a vacum line loose first being you were just workinr under te hood. then get it scaned if it has a iac code (idle air controll) replace it, very easy to install and you'll know what it looks like when you get new one!!! well you might want to take a reading oon the fuelpressure and make sure its at factory specs and another thing you can check when it wont start take off the gas cap and see if it sucks air in it might be pulling a vacume on the tank and not allowing fuel to get to the motor

Idle flare is normal on all newer fuel injected cars. I think maybe you got a little paranoid, probably first spark plug change done by you. Gas milelage is easily explained in 2 ways, one the gov't is making the gas companies put oxygenated fuel into the gas & 2 you could go with a set of bosch oxygen sensors, pick up 15% more gas mileage

I have a 1993 940 Volvo that is overheating and I do not think it is the radiator. We replaced the thermostat last night and I had no problems this morning then this afternoon when I was driving home it...

Make sure the electric fans are operating as they should.
Check for a blocked radiator core,
Check water pump drive OK,
Get a radiator shop to do 'coolant gas check' for a blown head gasket (looks for combustion gas bubbles in the water system).

Idles high when warm

With the age of the vehical it might be a good idea to do a compression test first. I would check the timing. Sounds like the engine is advancing for some reason, if that checks out then recheck for vacuum leaks( it could be leaking past the base gasket, vacuum booster, or intake), The vehicle has a carb. not a throttle body injection? Also if you can retrieve that engine code it may be helpful.

2004 F150 5.4L engine misfire

The concern is likely caused by the coil which sits on top of the spark plug. Your P0301 indicated misfire on cylinder 1. Your P0316 indicated it occurs on the first 1000 revolutions. Your P0171 indicated lean on bank one. Bank one includes cylinders 1,2,3 and 4. Your lean code is strange but could be related to misfire. I would recommend swap the coil on number one with number two. Clear the code and drive it. I would expect to see a P0302 which indicates the misfire traveled with bad coil. good luck.
