When I tried to starmy 02 Explorer XLT , the starter clicked once. I tryed jumping it, same thing. I tried tto move the shifter, it was stuck. Next I checked the battery voltage, 12.34 volts. The bat

12.34 is barely enough voltage. check for dirty connections at the starter and the battery. if these are okay then check for voltage at the starter large cable it should be battery voltage then with someone trying to start the car check voltage on the small terminal of the starter it should be battery voltage. if you don`t have this on either terminal then check for lose of voltage. what is the voltage at the battery when you try to start the car. if it drops below 11 volts then the battery is weak and either needs to be charged and tested or replaced. even with a jump start attempt a bad battery will not allow enough voltage to start the car. if these items are okay then replace the starter.

Car wont start....replaced the starter and the altenator

ms. miller, with this jag you have, if it only clicks while attempting to start, it could be any number of things. my experience has taught me that once the obvious stuff has been checked, it gets more complicated and expensive..new starter, new alternator, did the battery check good? are cables tight (do all the lights work?) do all acessorie work? blower, inside lighs? etc. then be looking for a start solenoid to be replaced and test the cables that go to the starter, also check any neutral safety switches, all cars have them in different places..this one its either in the shifter, or on the transmission hookup under the car..and if its the ultimate issue...a locked up motor..the engine should turn over by hand..good luck..repost findings..

Car won't start without a jump but battery okay

wont crank or wont start.??
no car starts , if it cant crank. (unless push starter (M/T magic)
that is not a trans sensor its the PRN switch.
ill answer for, wont CRANK !
it wont crank even with a good battery (charged) or jump started.
1: bad start
2: bad wires to same.
so hot wire the starter small wire, the key start line is tiny.
cranks. , starter good, no crank starter bad or cables bad.
if it cranks hot wired, then the key line is dead.
easy, huh?

04 trailblazer wont start just a click all lights air and radio work

well having lights still means battery power is available but how much, check battery volts should be 12.5 volts, if battery volts below 10 volts the starter solenoid hold in and pull in winding wont be enough to drive starter solenoid and starter. if battery okay.make sure battery cables battery posts is clean from corrossion.if all is good, have starter and solenoid checked out at auto zone or advance auto parts.if you hear clicking under the hood look for faulty starter relay

1993 suburban is not starting and it is not the battery. What could it be?

IF BATTERY CABLES OLD THEY WILL CAUSE POOR GROUND HIGH RESISTANCE IN STARTER CIRCUIT CAUSING STARTER NOT TO CRANK ENGINE.CHECK TO SEE IF DASH LIGHTS AND GAUGES WORK WHEN YOU TURN ON IGNITION SWITCH IF NO CHECK IGNITION FUSES.IF FUSES OKAY IGNITION SWITCH IS OPEN NEED REPLACING.NOW IF BATTERY VOLTAGE IS 12.6 VOLTS, BATTERY CABLES GOOD AND IGNITION SWITCH AND FUSE OKAY. STARTER SOLENOID OR STARTER FAULTY.REMOVE STARTER TAKE TO ANY AUTO PARTS STORE THEY WILL TEST STARTER.TURN OFF RADIO BEFORE REMOVING NEGATIVE BATTERY SO YOU WONT LOCK OUT RADIO.

If you feel okay driving it,then go to Auto parts store,Autozone,Orielly's,or Advance, they can check your battery and alternator while it's running,it's free and only takes a few minutes, make sure your battery connections are good,to test the starter, you will have to take off and take it to them to test.Usually a clicking noise is a bad starter, but you never know. Here's a link on testing and replacing your starter. Wont start

Start by checking the battery connections. If they seem okay then, even though it may be pretty new, I would take the battery to the dealer and have them check it for an internal short in the battery. I had this happen 2 weeks after picking up a new car.
