Question about 1995 Buick Riviera

1 Answer

My 1995 Buick Riveria Supercharge- the other day my engine started to make a metallic sound. I took it to a local auto shop and they replaced the harmonic balancer. When I picked up the car, the mettallic noise was gone, but to my suprise I noticed a prominent "vibration" not engine misfire, but a very noticeable vibration in neutral at about 1500 rpm? I took it to the local GMC dealer they said that it needs new plugs, and wires, they wanted to do a compression test that I think should have been done first, and they tried to say all three mounts are bad. It is obvious that they don't have a clue. Forgot to mention the auto shop already had replaced the rear transmission mount after I brought it back because of the vibration.Could you tell me if it is possible, the auto shop installed the wrong harmonic balancer? Thanks in advance for your help. John

The vibration problem began after car dealer replaced several motor mounts and transmission mounts. He also replaced the harmonic balancer

I don't think so.They seem to be on top of the situation more than the dealer for 1 thing. For vibration,I don't really think a compression test would show anything. That would be more of a loss of power issue. If that shop did not think the other 2 mounts were bad enough to require replacement, the answer is probably somewhere else.If this is an automatic, when do you put it in neutral? At lights or long stops?I would like to know the answer for that please. It could just be the age of the car and normal wear and tear is causing it but if the vibration is bad enough to post here, there could be something.I have a 1995 Escort wagon with 135k miles and it shakes a little bit.Anyhow, just comment here and I will get an aoto link back here to see what you said.

Horn keeps blowing on 1995 riveria won't stop till fuse blows

This exact same thing happened to my 1994 Buick Skylark Coupe. It started to go off just now and then, and it wouldn't stop until the fuse blew (like you said), or I literally punched the steering wheel repeatedly and sometimes it would stop. I assumed the horn was shorting out. One day it just stopped working all together. I took it into the dealership and they said that it had in fact shorted out. I bought a new horn kit on eBay, and had it put in by one of my buddies that is a mechanic for a Nissan dealership, and it resolved the issue. I'm guessing your horn is shorting out as well. I'd bet that the same exact horn that is in the 1994 Skylark is also in your 1995 Riveria. Not SURE, but I'm guessing. Check around for a replacement, or ask the dealer if they can order you one. Hope this helps!

The transmission of my 1995 riveria seems to be slipping

you are possibly looking at a new clutch if manual drive, this sounds like the thrust bearing is warn ( whiring noise)as well as the clutch plate ( slipping as you accelerate), if its an auto, try topping up the fluid for the autobox, as this also sounds like its empty( whiring noise and loss of power to drive), dont forget when checking the auto box fluid, make sure the motor is running and obviously in park...hope this helps

Car shuts off while driving

Gm products had a lot of problems with their pcm's and that's what they would do.
It is located on the left side of the engine compartment, by the air cleaner. Tap on it while it is running and see if it stumbles, if it does, it is the problem. Also, tap on the MAF sensor that is located in the air cleaner hose.Watch for the same results.

Do the interior chimes and headlights turn on when you turn the key in the ignition???? We have a 95 Riv that gave us the same problem. Occassionally we have to put the key in the ignition, turn it on, move the steering column up and down (sometimes roughly) until the chimes etc. come on (some security thing) then the car will start.
