it is located in the high pressure AC line at the AC evaporator core inlet. The high pressure line is the smaller of the two AC lines that come from the AC compressor on the engine..

the fixed orfice is located at the high side ac line where it goes into the evaporator core at the firewall. u will most likely need a special tool to get it out without ruining the evaporator intlet

not exactly sure but using info below you can find it.

Remember the flow for the a/c system is :
1. From the compressor a high pressure (HP) gas goes to the condenser in front of the radiator.
2. From the condenser a HP liquid goes to an expansion device (orifice tube or expansion valve)
3. From expansion device the low pressure gas enters the firewall to the evaporator.
4. From evaporator the low pressure liquid/gas mixture goes through the dryer2_bing.gif back to the compressor suction.

There will be about a 1" nut on the low pressure line between the firewall and the compressor. Remove nut and on the male side use a pair of kneedle nose pliers and remove orifice tube. Note orientation of tube.

Replace tube, reassemble, evacuate air from system, recharge with freon.

Unfortunately, I do not know precisely. But for the most part auto a/c's are all the same. Below I will describe how to find it. I have also included a aguide to determine system operability that may or may not be helpful. Just trace the system with flow path described below the valve has to be between condensor and evaporator.

Reminder the flow for the a/c system is :
1. From the compressor a high pressure (HP) gas goes to the condenser in front of the radiator.
2. From the condenser a HP liquid goes to an expansion device (orifice tube or expansion valve)
3. From expansion device the low pressure gas enters the firewall to the evaporator.
4. From evaporator the low pressure liquid/gas mixture goes through the dryer2_bing.gif back to the compressor suction.

Below is a guide to troubleshoot and check system function. This can be done by most folks.

Look at the front of the ac compressor and have someone turn on the ac from inside the car. The front of the pulley(clutch) will spin when turned on.

If it does not spin, the low pressure switch (LPS) is not satisfied. Meaning there is not enough freon in the system to operate the system. Means low freon capicity because of a leak.

The LPS can be jumpered to cause the compressor to run (clutch to engaged) which will draw the freon in the system.

The LPS is usually a two wire sensor on the suction of the compressor. (between evaporator and compressor) Unplug the sensor and install a jumper, this will engage the clutch. Connect a new can of freon
and fill to system capacity.

The capacity of the ac system will be on a label under the hood, do not overfill. Probably about 2 lbs. Local parts stores (Auto Zone and Advance) will have freon with stop leak. This may help the leak. They also make a freon with a UV dye. I always add a single can with dye so that if stop leak does not work I can find the leak in the future.

The system should be filled until suction pressure is about 30 to 38 psi..

Its inside the metal line just before it goes into the evaporator. You open the line and remove it with a pair of needle nose pliers.

If you are not somewhat mechanically inclined you should let a professional do this as the AC coolant will be released. You will have to re-charge the system upon completion. Here are some quotes from on-line mechanics to give you a better idea what you are looking for. The Orifice tube can be determined as faulty when your AC doesn\'t cool properly in the summer or heat well in the winter. Often you will smell antifreeze inside your car\'s interior.

The liquid line is located in the area of the abs pump.

"The fixed orifice is located in the inlet tube to the evaporator core, this is where the small high pressure AC line from the compressor connects to the tube sticking out of the engine firewall, u will most likely need a special tool to remove it," below is an example of the tool, "don\'t damage the evaporator core by trying to remove the orifice tube without this if it is stuck down in the tube." ---Dennis Weid

Another suggestion comes from Ronnie Bennett Sr.: "The orifice tube will be on the small line joining the evaporator, the ac line will be swelled where the orifice tube is at, you may not see it, but use needle nose pliers to remove it, and to install it."

Where is the orifice tube on a 1985 oldsmobile 98


orifice tube should b on the pass side under an near the accumalator assembly an is located in the smaller of the two lines. usually a 3/4 and a 7/8 wrenches needed to break apart lines its located inside the line at the connection, thats why u dissassemble the two lines. also othr spot for orifice would b directly on evaporater inlet lines , once agian the smaller of the two. hope this helps good luck

FIRST POUR OUT SHIPPING OIL IN NEW COMPRESSOR.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE YOU ADD 2 OUNCES OF R- 134 OIL TO NEW COMPRESSOR. ADD 1 OUNCE OIL TO NEW ACCUMULATOR OR DRIER.BESURE TO REPLACE ORIFICE TUBE.

Where do I find the AC Orifice tube


The orifice tube will be on the small line joining the evaporator,the ac line will be swelled where the orifice tube is at,you may not can see it,but use needle nose pliers to remove it,and to install it.

Where is the orphis located in the ac unit in a 98 chevrolet cavalier


Actually the orifice tube on a 98 Cavalier is up front,passenger side of AC condenser in the small line!! (#7 below)
PS If it's plugged or has deb're in it the system needs complete flush and the Accumulator Drier replaced!~!~!~!(# 1 Below)

I recently changed my head gaskets and exhaust gaskets but now that I put it all together it does not stay running, Do I have my firing order wrong ? Also can I have a picture of how the wires should be placed
