Thanks, I talked with a local friend mechanis who said to buy a can of mass air flow cleaner- so I did and followed th directions carefully, but didn't help--- Does that mean I might need a whole new senser ? Thanks

Thanks again guys for the help, I'm planning on going to Motor Parts on Monday to get new MAF and install that to start with . I haven't removed any box from on top the engine and it all looks intact. I Also put a new fuel pump in 2 years ago( seems to work fine ) and changed fuel filter a week ago so is there something else that might affect fuel pressure ?

Hi, it's still Sunday so haven't had a chance to go to Motor Parts yet -- wondering today if it could be a plugged catalydic converter ? How would I check that ? Thanks

Hi! You may have a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. The MAF has big contribution on engine performance specially on the idling and vacuum supply. Once replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

yes you will need the set. For if it didn't work on the cleaner the MAF is really faulty.

95 chevy g20 van started to lose power while driving and began to spit and sputter

Ck your alternator output, should be between 13.8 and 14.2 volts, A bad alt will cause the battery to discharge when driving, Once voltage drops to a certain level (9.8 I think ) the ecm starts to shut down causing all kinds of strange problems, like running bad ,trans not shifting right, even the radio ! It happened to me in my 95 chev p/u

5 years ago for cap & rotor???? It sounds like it's in dire need of a complete tune up - plugs. wires, cap, rotor, all fluids & filters ESPECIALLY fuel filter. I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it. Do your tune ups more frequently like every 30K - not wait 5 years!

Jeep spits and sputters after driving in local traffic

When it's running poorly, how do the brakes feel? Is the pedal very hard? I know this sounds like a strange question, but I had a similar (but not exact same) problem which after completely testing everything three times and even swapping a pcm from a known good vehicle, I managed to fix, without replacing any parts but am not sure exactly what was wrong.(I believe I "outsmarted" the computer, but am still not sure what the underlying problem was)
What I do suggest is that you individually test each sensor to see if anything is out of range. I'd especially look at the map sensor and throttle position sensor, possibly the cam sensor and sensor shaft.Stop buying parts and do the testing. Only then, after actually verifying a failure, should you replace any more parts!

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Runs fine at startup, after warming up it dies at low speed 5-10

Fuel pump? That is odd, it seems there is no issue with getting fuel. I would check the idle and the choke settings. Try tweaking those a bit.

No, its a Auto-Anti-Theft Unit, your best bet would be to buy a $100 kit from auto zone. The Stick unit is built that way because if you start it and walk away, I can use a blank key to unlock the ignition and drive off.
