This is caused due to a bad blowermotor resistor, the resistor is located to the leftside of blower motor on pass/side under the dash. remove lower dash cover and you will see resistor, first remove connector from resistor then connector to blower motor, next remove two screws holding resistor in heaterbox and then slide out, heres a picture of resistor to help you and also a diagram to show you the location of it this show an open heaterbox and resistor goes in from the bottom. hope this helps.heater fan only works on setting medium and high - 4bfae0c.jpgb913ad6.gif

What causes heater blower to barely work on high? wont work at all on low

A couple of possibilities; air path blocked by debris (mouse nest, etc.), the sleeve-type phosphor-bronze fan bearings are clogged with wear particles, less likely but still possible is a failing blower switch, failing ground for the fan motor or an oxidized fuse or fuse holder.

A multimeter would be handy to isolate the source of the problem.

With your headlights on and shining on a vertical flat surface, try noticing if they dim very briefly when you quickly turn the blower on.
If not, then the fan isn't getting full current, if they do, then this would indicate a bearing problem with the fan.
Good luck-

Why wont the heater switch work on a

Did you progressively lose fan settings? (works on high but not medium or low?) The fan switch is mounted behind the fan knob and fails quite often.

Why does heat-air fan only work on high

Can you tell that the fan is getting higher or lower? Or is there no response from the fan control until you get to the high position?

Why does my heater in my 2000 ford ranger only work on the high setting?

I assume that you are talking about the heater fan?

Your heater FAN has at least 3 settings, and for our purposes we will assume low,med and high

Low and medium run through a resistor High is wired direct
Either your resistor is bad or your fan is
I know it seems wrong that the fan could be shot but it could be pulling so many amps that it won't work in any other mode than high
I just had this happen on one of my trucks
Start with the fan

Heater fan only works on "high speed"

All cars are designed with a blower fan motor that pushes air through the ventilation system. This air is processed by a series of vents to direct the air to various positions. Example: heater, air conditioner and defrost modes. Most blower motors are power by a basic electrical circuit that utilizes a multi resistor or a solid-state resistor to control different fan speed modes (low, medium low, medium and high). If the resistor malfunctions it may lose one or more of the lower fan speed settings.

There are two relays for the heater control fan,a low blower relay and a high blower relay. It sounds like the hi blower relay is bad.

If the heater fan on your car only works on "High" the problem is more than likely the resister assembly in your blower circuit or poor connections at the resister assembly. When the switch is in the "high" position the current does not flow through the resister assembly it flows directly to the coil of the blower relay. When the switch is in "low", "medium 1", or "medium 2" position the current flows through 1, 2, or all 3 of the resistors in the resistor assembly which results in the 3 different lower speeds. Check the resister assembly and replace if needed.
