Trying to set the ignition timing on a 1991 KH Laser 1.8 SOHC Engine. The manual says to short Diagnostic Connector TEN with GND then set timing to 5 degrees. Does that sound right.

Try just moving the distributor to obtain an idle speed of 900 rpms. just don't over advance the timing or kick back at the starter and pre ignition knock will occur . don't jump any diagnostic wire .

If you are adjusting your timing by the distributor a few degrees left or right do I need to unplug the wire to reset the computer on my 1991 chevy c1500

No, but you should disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor and clog it while setting the timing if it has a vaccum advance

I need to set the timing on my 1991 suburban, I need to find the wire you unhook to set timing and then reconnect for the advance to work ok.

Distributer has two sets of wires coming from it one that plugs into distributer and the other comes out as a set of wires that plug in to another set of wires , set base timing after unhooking the set of wires that plug into the other set of wires

Hi, I have a 1991 rr silver spur 2, the engine is quite shaky at stop position or low rpm... Any ideas? Thanks in advance

the things to look at are the ignition wires and the spark plugs. If the plugs have not been changed in soemtime (i.e. 30 - 40,000 miles), it may be time to purchase and install a set of either Bosch or Champion spark plugs. gapped at .030". This is a likely scenario but if everything is in good working order, it may be the sign of a more serious problem. Let me know what you find?

What is the timing set at for a 1991 Camero 305 V8 ?

Try 0 degrees. It should state it on the radiator cover, but mine didn't. I tried 10 advance and it started real hard. I think you need to disconnect the single wire terminal near the distributor/coil that sticks out of your harness wrap before you set timing and reconnect it afterwards. That's what I recall from my TPI car and this TBI car seems to have the same electronics. Good luck.

Ignition timing for 1991 Pontiac Firefly or 1991 Chevrolet Sprint or 1991 Geo Metro

for 1991 geo metro 1.0 liter 3 cyl engine the timing is 6 degrees before top dead center. you will need a tachometer because the rpm must be 800 when you set the timing. also you will need to disconnect the vacuum advance to the distributor, and plug the hose to avoid a vacuum leak. (alternate method is to pinch the vacuum advance hose going to the distributor while you are setting the timing) Good Luck!
