My cooling fan for a 1997 Escort runs continuously, even when the car is cold. I'm not seeing a sensor on the bottom of the radiator either.

This would not the sensor as it would shut down after key is off, and also you would have starting problems, as this sensor also tells computer temp to control fuel mixture, your problem is the relay which is in a box with other relays, you cant just change one the rtelay box has to be replaced, if you remove the cover on top of radiator you will see the box, heres a picture to help you, also they changed postion of the box if its not under that cover then its under air filter housing hope this helps. My cooling fan for a - 555825a.jpg

Car over heats

Check and see if the Radiator cooling fan is working. It should cycle more or run continuously when the AC is on. There are often 2 heat sensors for the Temperature, 1 is for the gauge and the other is for the Radiator fan.

Just having water flow is not enough to cool the engine, the electric Radiator fan makes a big difference. There should be a Relay in the Powerbox. You can get Diagrams for the wiring at Autozone.com when you register for FREE. Then you will be able to tell what is in the Powerbox and get chassis wiring diagrams.

Since you had a new radiator installed, there is a possibility that the electric fan was not reconnected.

Radiator fan staying on with the car off

If it only stays on for about 5 minutes but no longer that isn't a problem, it is meant to do that. It is part of the thermo fan operation to help keep the car cool.
If it runs continuously and you have to take out the fuse or disconnect the battery then you have a serious problem.

99 ford escort running hot . i replaced the thermostat. flushed the radiator . had the synsors checked . no leaks no noice. is it my radiator?

You may need your radiator rodded and cored. But, before you do that check the relay that controls when your electric fan engages to pull air through your radiator. The sensors that control the electric fan are usually in the side tanks on the radiator. This sensor heats up and tells the fan when it needs to make the electrical connection to engage the fan to cool the radiator coolant. I would probably bet that is what is malfunctioning. They are a relatively inexpensive part. Good luck.

Where is the cooling fan relay located on a 1997 ford escort lx. Replaced the fan and it worked for a few minutes then the car ran hot and the fan would no longer work.

This car has a relay module that contains a few relays internally and cant be serviced the relay box must be replaced, the relay box module that contains the fan and ac compressor and fuelpump relays is located under the air filter box, remove the filter box and you will see the relay module bolted there. hope this helps.

I have a 1997 Ford Escort and when I shut the car off the radiator fan keep running which causes my battery to die. What can I do

you need a new fan, they are meant to run for a while when you turn it off just to cool it down slowy so the rad doesnt crack in the cold. fords have a lot of bad earth wires so maybe this but I would check the wiring to the fan. its most likely caput!

On my 1997 ford escort with a 2.0 liter push rod engine the electric radiator cooling fan never turns off even when cold. Whats causing the problem?

THE COOLIG FAN RELAY MAY BE STUCK,PULL IT OUT AND THE FAN SHOULD QUIT.THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR COULD ALSO CAUSE THIS UNPLUG IT,FAN SHOULD QUIT.IF NONE OF THIS WORKS THEN HAVE THE WIREING CHECKED.

My VW Cabrio is overheating after 1-2 miles. Coolant in recovery tank is boiling by this time and making bubbling noises. Someone changed radiator hoses, flange, some housing. They are saying that radiator...

Run the engine and look at the header tank , is there lots of air bubbles coming back out of the water if is then the head gasket may have split and that is down to either a can of Radweld or a strip down repair

If the radiator is not uniformly hot them I would go for that as your problem

Normal operation is that the engine starts the thermostat is closed , engine block heats up and opens water starts to circulate around the block

So to check that you need to fill the radiator with cold water run it for a few minutes check the bottom hose it should be cold

The stat opens and the bottom hose should get hot as the water from the block is pumped into the radiator for cooling.

The radiator should get hot all over and the cooling fan should kick in when the sensor hits the over limit stop.

If that does not happen then get someone to remove the stat altogether (It is only there to get the engine block warm quickly in cold regions )

In which case the bottom hose should go from cold to warm to hot

Electric cooling fans run constantly even after vehicle is off

Try diconnecting the two wires on the temp sensor at the bottom of the radiator, you may be able to trace the wires from the fan, it that stops the fan, then replace the sensor and it should be ok
