Question about 2002 Kia Sportage

I am having problem bleeding the brakes on my 2002 kia sportage.Every time I bleed the brakes I only get the peddle up just a bit but not enough.Is there a special way to do bleed them.There doesn't seem to be any leaks anyplace.

When bleeding never allow the Masrer Cylinder get below 1/4 full or you will introduce more air, which will mean starting over again. I helps if you have a length of clear plastic tubing that fits snugly over the tip of the bleed nipple so that you can see if there is any air bubbles being released. You usually start at the rear wheel that has the longest run of pipe from the master cylinder. Next is the other rear wheel. Next is the front wheel with the longest run and last is the remaining front wheel. Proceedure:
1. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal 3 or 4 time then hold down an maintain weight on pedal as it drops when fluid is released.
2. Release bleed nipple and observe fluid coming out for bubbles then retighten when flow stops.
3. Assistant then allows pedal up and waits for a few seconds for cylinder piston to refill fully.
4. Repeat from #1 until no more air bubbles are visible, then go to next wheel.
If pedal still feels a little spongy repeat process after a couple of days driving with engine running so that any remaining tiny air bubbles are purged.
You should also make sure that the brake pedal free travel adjustment is correct because if the free travel is insufficient, it will not allow the master cylinder to operate correctly..

Does it matter what wheel you bleed first on a kia sedona 2002. I have told by a friend to bleed the passenger rear 1st the driver rear then passenger front then driver front is that right.

When bleeding brakes always start at the furthest point from the master cylinder. So start at the passenger's rear and then the next furthest point, the driver's rear, then passenger front and last driver's front. Hope this helps.

How to bleed the brakes

because this is brakes related I'm posting a disclaimer that if something happen to your or your vehicle as a result of following my instructions I take no fault and you know you are doing this work AT YOUR OWN RISK. first step, get help its not really that difficult however it is a 2 person job I may have extra steps, but it will work although ALWAYS test your brakes before going onto the road after working on them. you need to locate your bleeding valve it looks like a grease fitting you will need a wrench that fits it, periodically check that you have lots of fluid in your reservoir or you will find yourself bleeding the entire system because of air bubbles..
okay have your helper fully press the brake peddle in, open the valve, close the valve, have them release and then repress the peddle, repeat this process until fluid runs out of the bleeding valve (note do not tighten the valve to much as you can break it), at this point tighten the valve have them repeat the brake pedal push one more time, tell them to make sure the pedal is all the way down, open the valve, while the fluid is spraying out, close it, have them pump the brake pedal and check for any leaks, put the tire and anything else you make have taken off which resulted in your needing to bleed the lines, have them hold the brake pedal and make sure the brakes are engaging properly by attempting to turn the tire, if the tired feels how it should, attempt a slow speed stop in your drive way moving in a safe direction before thinking about taking the car on the road, if you feel uncomfortable or nervous about doing this work yourself at all please take your vehicle in to a mechanic because im sure alot of people agree with me that the brakes in your vehicle is the most important system you have. you will live if your car doesn't start, but I can not make the same guarantee if it doesn't stop.

No it is not that big of a deal. It is normally 2-3 nuts and your brake lines. The things to make sure of is that brake fluid does not get on any of the electronics below the cylinder by using a towel. Also make sure to bleed the cylinder before hooking the brake lines in all the way. Basically you can do this by screwing in the brake lines about half way and hitting the brake pedal about half way down. Make sure the reservoir does not get empty. Bleed it until there is nothing but fluid coming out of both lines. Obviously this is best done with two people. Have them hold the pedal down while you tighten the lines fully and you should be good.

A perssure bleeder is the best way to bleed the brakes. You can't properly just bleed one or two lines. You must start with the left rear, then right rear, then front right and finally front left. Any other order will just push a bubble around.

Have changed the master brake cylinder on kia sportage but brake pressure is still low after bleeding

bleed it again--but use gravity this time open mastercylinder and keep it full while opening the bleeder valves at each wheel until no more bubbles come out. the other option is using a power bleeder at a shop--the old process of pumping up the pedal and opening and closing the bleeder will still leave air bubbles in the line this is why power bleeding is the best process but is done with a machine at a shop for a price--side note make sure the brake fluid being used has not been shaken -look inside bottle if bubbles are present suspended in the fluid do not use it

Braking pedal goes all the way to the floor....

did you check if the master cylinder was leaking cause that is what was my cure for this problem....bleading after and make sure to adjust the back brakes very well now my pedal is all the way to the top.

If you don't have any brake lines leaking, change the master cylinder, bench bleed the new one then bleed the blakes, starting with the right rear, left rear, right front, then left front. If the booster was gone, you would hear air leaking out of it when you pressed the pedal down.
