SOURCE: Rear Axle Removal

if you are talking about the axle seals, 1.REMOVE THE WHEELS.2. REMOVE THE DIFF COVER(slowly)3.REMOVE THE BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY.4.REMOVE THE 8MM PIN IN THE DIFF CARRIER. 5.TURN CARRIER AND REMOVE THE LARGE PIN.6. FIRMLY HIT IN THE AXLE, A SMALL RETAINING C CLIP WILL FALL INTO THE DIFF HOUSING. DO THE SAME WITH THE OTHER SIDE. ( be careful if you have rear speed sensors remove it when you remove the brake calipers . you will break it when you are pushing in the axles.)7.pull axles and replace seals

SOURCE: Rear Axle Seal Replacement

remove rear tires, then remove brake calipers and rotors, then remove the 4 nuts (each side) that hold the axle shafts to the axle tube (located around the axle tube behind the backing plate) then using a slide hammer pull the axle shafts out, next using a die grinder and an air hammer get he retainer collar and the bearing off (without damaging the axle shaft) then remove the seal and the outer race which will still be in the housing. next put it all back together, make sure the plate with the studs is still on then slide the seal, bearing, then retainer on (all new parts) and using a press push them all the way back on. then is simple reassembly.

SOURCE: REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING ONTO BRAKE SHOES NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX

Jack up vehicle and support on stands. Remove wheels. Remove differential cover . Locate and remove lock pin that holds cross shaft in. Slide cross shaft out. Push axle inward to release axle c clip. Remove axle and pry out old seal. Install new seal with proper tool.Add some lube to the seal lip to aid axle intallation. Revese removal procedure. This is for a "c" type axle.
Another type has 4 nuts attaching a retainer plate to the backing plate behind the axle flange. In this case the 4 nuts are removed and the axle will come out. This may require a little effort. I think that you have a "c" type axle in your vehicle. Hope this helps. Moe

The crankshaft pos. sensor is located on the left "driver" side of the engine on the bellhousing and is retained by a single 10mm bolt. The sensor may be tight,be sure to twist as you pull so that it doesnt break off in the bottom end.

SOURCE: hold keeps coming on in my 99 kia sportage what

Look on the shifter lever, just bellow the push button. There is another push button there. That's the one you press or depress to keep the transmission on 3rd. gear. Just press it again and the hold light should come off.

In the engine compartment fuse/relay box, check the 40A IGN fuse. If it is blown, the items you mentioned will not work. Replacing the fuse should clear up the trouble and you'll be able to start

Axle seal leak

If it is in the front axle, it could be the bearing seal if it is near the wheel or transmission axle seal if it is at the output of the transmission. If it is the rear axle, then there is just a seal at each rear wheel. If it is the wheel seal of either the front or rear, you have to remove the:
  • tire
  • brakes
  • possibly the back plate
  • bearing assembly
At any rate, if you are looking to do this yourself, get either a service manual from an autoparts store or from the dealership. Manual from the dealership will be the most comprehensive but most expensive.

Hi Missippirebe, I think you should replace the fuel filter and if the problem persists check fuel pump pressure. It should be at around 3.7 bar. Regards John

How to check the manual transmission fluid on kia sportage 2001

on the side of the gearbox you will find a square topped plug, unscrew in the normal manner then fill with ep90 until it overflows, wait for it to stop then replace the plug.there is no need to drain/refill,although i would replace oils in gearbox and rear axle at 100k.

Rear bearing removal

I have never replaced a rear bearing on a Kia but in most cases on Asian/European cars the bearing is pressed into the hub. Search the internet or call your local parts store and ask them if they sell the bearings individually or already pressed into the hub. It is much easier to replace the entire hub than it is to press a sealed bearing into the old hub. Trying to just remove a pressed bearing is a pain. Most machine shops will have a bearing press if you decide to do them yourself.
