Question about Jeep Cherokee

3 Answers

Tonight, my check engine light came on in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It seems to be running fine. But how long can I drive on this until I need to take it in? Is it safe to "toodle" around town this weekend, then take in on Monday? How critical can something like this be? I just rolled over 100K miles last week...could this just be a built in thing to seek service at this milestone? Actually have 100,500 miles...

Sometimes it just stays on for a little while-its kinda like a nervous system--but u shud hav it scanned at a parts place-ussually free-itz about time with that many mile--02 sensors r a common problem as well as vacuum leaks

The check engine light means something is wrong but not an emergency wrong. You can drive with a check engine light for 4 years or more depending on what it is. It could be a bad 02 sensor, any sensor switch, emissions, that's just a few but if it's driving good with no seen problems, I would drive it like someone stole it.Take it to a Auto zone, there is a few parts stores will run the light and pull up the fault code for free and also tell you what the problem is but they will try to sell the part to you which isn't' a bad idea. Good Luck

The check engine light is different to a service light....but if you dont appear to have any problems, like bad driving or lack of power, i would think it was inssgnificant and not to worry about.......the engine light comes on when the computer registers a problem......this could be anything from an emission control issue, to a sensor intermittently failing, or a sensor failed.....just keep an eye on it, and at your earliest convenience take it to a local mechanic to have it diagnosed

Get the check engine light checked you need to figure out the codes. Could be low on tranny fluid. If rpms go up and only moves for a short distance at 15 mph. Could be tranny fluid.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Keeps stalling, engine

P0505 means the whole Idle Control system, not only the IAM. Check all related sensors (i.e. crankshaft sensor). Check with a voltmeter direct at the connector of the IAM if you get any signal. Remove the IAM from the TB, connect him, let someone switch your ignition key to ON. The IAM need to drive in/out for a short time to find the right position. Hold the IAM near a hard part, that they cant drive out completely! If IAM works fine, check the fuel pressure, check and clean your TB ( if not done yet). If that doesn't work, come back again please

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee - problem with power windows/locks

This seems to be the affects of a bad dinamo charging your battery . If you take a appart the dinamo you should fine a part called in mechanic terms "the bones" they look like 2 black magnets with a wire coming out of them . They are not expencive and you should not change your dinamo untill you try this first a car dinamo is very expencive .

that's the check engine light. Take the vehicle to Autozone and ask them to read the computer error code. Then post that, unless they tell you what it means and you are able to correct the problem.
