The sensor in the bottom of the coolant tank may need replaced, it tells how much coolant is in there. You will have to drain the coolant tank, remove the tank and you will be able to remove sensor.

Low coolant light stays on until system heats

Your overflow tank(aka coolant recovery reservoir) is low on coolant. The coolant expands when warm and raises the level in the tank, which turns off your light. Top off the reservoir (when cool) to the "Full Cold" line. If you have to keep adding on a regular basis, then you have a leak somewhere in your cooling system, could even be the reservoir itself.

If you are talking about the low coolant warning light, be sure and check the radiator along with the overflow tank.
If the cooling system is full, the sensor has failed.

Light on autozone says coolant low but its full ....guy said could be thermastat to go to shop and have them scope it!?

I guess what you are saying is your low coolant warning light is on and you went to autozone to ask why. Right ?
If the low coolant light is on and the radiator and overflow tank are full, the coolant level sensor may have failed. You don't use a scanner to check it, you use a meter.

The coolant light is on in my 95 camaro. History: .July 2006 i flushed out the rad and then took it off the road aug 2006....due to financial constraints, not mechanical issues........Its in great...

Hello: If the light is for low coolant level and the radiator/overflow tank are full it will not hurt to drive it. The thermostat has nothing to do with the coolant level switch. The level switch will be in either the overflow tank or the radiator tank.

My low coolant light keeps coming on the coolant is full and doesnt over heat would that be a coolant level sensor

Hello: Yes, you are correct, the sensor is normally located on the passenger side of the radiator tank. You only have to drain the cooling system down below the sensor. On some models the level sensor is in the coolant overflow tank.

Is it the LOW coolant light? Your car is equipped with a sensor on the expansion tank (radiator overflow). Right front fender. It's there for when the car heats up. As the engine heats up and the coolant expands it racks into the reservoir/overflow/expansion tank. When the engine cools, it sucks the coolant back in. If your car was low on coolant then there's a good possibility that as it cooled, it sucked the recently added fluid in. Check that it is full to the "cold full" level by looking at the tank before you start it for the day. If it's not, then the sensor is telling you to add coolant. If it is, then the sensor in the tank may be bad.

Low Coolant light

Sounds like your sensor unit in your coolant overflow tank. Like nearly everything man made that floats, they will eventually leak (become water logged). This is a relatively cheap fix, as long as the light is coming on and the coolant level in the overflow tank is between the MIN and MAX lines in the overflow tank. This means that the float in there is dropping below the actual fluid level (watter logged) and you need to get a replacement sensor unit (aka sending unit) for the overflow tank.

Otherwise, if the coolant level in the overflow tank IS BELOW the MIN level line on the tank, then you are losing coolant somewhere and that is when things start to get expensive (might be a radiator problem, head gasket, cylinder head, heater core, etc).

Low Coolant light flashing on 1996 Buick Regal 3.8

The low coolant sensor should be located in the passenger side radiator tank, You need to take it out and clean the sludge off of it for it to work right. Or you can just unplug it and forget about it, the light will go out and it won't cause any problems.
