Coolant has no bearing on whether the car starts, you have a major issue i think and its called a head gasket perhaps if u can get me more information i might be able to walk you through it

This just started happening or ?t just started getting noticed ? Someone ran it hot ? How's it running ? Temp ? Need more info. Autozone rent a tool (free) - compression tester. Spark plug out, threaded fitting goes in, then hook the gauge and get a reading. Repeat process 3 more times. Cost = $0
First thing I'd do.

Started my 94 ford van after sitting out in minus zero degree weather and it ran for a few minutes and stopped and now just cranks over and wont start

If you stared and ran it in minus degrees then possible the engine coolant and oil was almost solid and that has created a low oil pressure problem and overheating around the cylinders . BY adding alcohol to the fuel you create problems that you did not need as the octane rating of the fuel was altered to a point where the sensors are unable to tell the CPU at what point the air/ fuel ratio is . Have a compression test done to check for head gasket and cracks. have the coolant system pressure tested to check for leaks. Fill the tank right up to dilute the alcohol and have the fault codes read.

My 94 dodge shadow starts but wont stay running and smokes white?

Sounds like possibly a blown head gasket- that would explain the white smoke (usually an indication that coolant is being burned). . Do you mean the exhaust pipes sounded funny like drowning? If coolant is getting into the cylinders and being burned, some will not burn and get pushed in to the exhaust...
Pull the sparkplugs out and check for evidence of water or coolant. A compression test will verify if the head gasket is good or not.
Good luck.

Check your serpentine belt. If ok then check engine coolant if that is ok take off radiator cap start engine and watch to see if the coolant in the radiator starts to circulate when engine reaches operating temp. If it don't change engine thermostat if all fails to get coolant moving then you will have to change the water pump.

My car overheated due to a radiator hose break.

sounds like you blew a head gasket or cracked the head it will be expensive to repair. anytime you have white smoke coming out the exhaust you have water in the conbustion chamber.

Not starting ran out of gas, added gas and still not starting, can hear fuel pump running, smell gas at engine and exhaust.

Gas line filter may be dirty and clogged. Change it. There could be sediment or dirt in the tank that you drew up to the filter when you ran out of gas and it has built up and is blocking gas from getting into the engine.

Sounds like you need to clean the battery terminals and check and see if the battery needs charging or replacing. Good Luck.
