This happened a couple of times b4. My macanic told me he changed the fuel pump but when I look under the van it looks like the tank hasn't been dropped ever. The 2nd time it happened we just got home less then 5min after dropping the van off at the macanic and he called and said it was fixed already. This time he said he put 5 gallons of gas in it. We already put 5 gallons of gas in it. We have heard many times that this macanic is shifty. I heard from an aquantince that there is a fuse above the gas tank that blows if the fuel pump is overheated to prevent fuel pump damage. Is this true? Could that be what my macanic has been doing all along, replacing my fuse and charging me for replacing a fuel pump, gas and labor to make more money off of me?

Running fuel injected cars out of fuel bring premature death to the fuel pumps because of they locations ,in the fuel tank the fuel actualy keeps the electric fuel pump cool if the tank is ran below 1/4 tank to many times it damage the pump by overheating it .make sure your fuel pressurer is good at least 60 psi min for some ,

Why won't my car stay running after it ran out of gas

Most newer cars are very sensitive to being ran low on gas. The fuel pump is in the tank and relies on fuel to cool it down. Your fuel pump is now probably not pumping the required pressure for the fuel injection system to work properly (or at all).

the fuel pump is cooled by gas so if u run it low alot or {OUT} it can burn it up

Almost ran out of gas. put 5 gallons in tank.

worst thing for fuel pumps is to run dry. The pressure will need to be confirmed. If none ,you overheated the pump and it will need to be replaces.

My chevy uplander 2007 ran out of gas. I have

Since the Uplanders have the long (front to back) skinny gas tank, with the outlet to the rear; if you run out of gas with the front/nose inclined lower than the rear, then it can take upwards of 5 to 8 gallons to get it started again. It was written up in a GM TSB. Two gallons won't start it. When the gage reads less than 1/2, it's not a good idea to park with the front lower than the rear...unless you carry a full 5 gal. refill. Thank you GM engineering.

Ran out of gas......

Sounds like fuel pump burned out when you ran out of gas. probably ran dry for about 20 sec till engine quit. Check for power to fuel pump in tank. Most likely fuel pump will need replacement . Hope this helps
