Question about Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

2001 Hyundai Sonata, just got it four days ago. Driven if 500 miles and at the carwash it died and took forever to start again. When started the check engine light was on and it hesitated A LOT while driving. Was fine til this. Tried restarting when I was home and had to give it lots of gas to restart it. It has a thirty day powertrain warranty that should cover this. My mechanis told me yesterday (again before this all happened) that it had a leaking right axle half shaft that was likely a seal issue.

Thank you. I am suppose to take it into their mechanic for the half shaft leak on Monday. I will tell them about the issue then. Maybe I will take it to autozone tomorrow though and post the codes here so I have an idea. Thanks so much.

Most likely the half shaft shouldn't be the reason for the engine light being on. If the check engine light is still on you can take it to your local auto zone and they can scan the trouble codes for free. Once you have those codes you can post them back here and it will be much easier to narrow down the possible culprits. If you have a 30 day power train warranty have it repaired under that warranty ASAP, as it's definitely an engine/powertrain issue.
Thank you,
Lee

Could be misfire. You need to get a code reader to find out what the trouble codes are. You can then better know what to do next. Spark plugs could be the problem. They are easy to change on the four cylinder, and the V6 is a bit of a chore as the intake plenum needs to be unbolted to change the three rear plugs. Get the codes read! best of luck!

2004 Sonata stalls out for no reason then won't start

hi there, i have a 2003 sonata and my car did the same. it stalled and the engine light stayed on but managed to get going again. i took it to Hyundai and it was the crank angle sensor. it needed replacing at NZD180.00 with 3 hours labour to do it. evidently they remove the front of the engine and cam belt etc. the workshop at Hyundai did it and charged 3 hours, not sure if that was excessive or not.

2001 hyundai sonata missing/now won't start

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the Ignition coil. I brought a new ignition coil and replaced it which is very simple to do as they lie just under the engine cover. Obviously you should disconnect the negative terminal on the battery first! Disconnect the coil leads either side and replace.. it's that simple! Now if the probelm continues ( there are two coils) replace the one you didn't change with the one you did. When I reconnected the battery negative terminal all of the error lights were out!! Result.
