I have a 86 F150 5.0 EFI. AOD Trans. 2 problems have started at the same time. The trans doesnt shift correct. It wont shift out of 1st until I hit about 20 to 30 unless I let off the gas and shifts late in the rest of the gears it also down shifts to easly. Next prob. It running a little ruff at a idle but not to bad but when I try to hit the gas it just feels like the motor is being held back runs ruff just no power and the hole truck kinda shakes. Now for the very long list of parts I have already replaced. Idle air control sensor, knock sensor, pick up coil, control module, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, air charge temp sensor, thermo temp sensor, Now the cat was also stopped up I think so I just ran a peice of rebar thru it for a test. HELP

That sounds like a transmission going bad to me.If it is shifting hard/winding out, maybe herky jerky too. With the rough running, truck shaking, and rough idle,it very much sounds it.Check the transmission fluid.Let it run for 5 minutes, leave it running and do at least 4 or 5 dips with the stick. If you see anything other than fluid such as metal chips or flakes, that is a definite indicator. If you do decide to replace the transmission,it is best to buy a new one,if one is available for your year.I have seen many people have disappointing results with used or rebuilt ones. You should call a couple shops and ask for their opinion, get estimates from different shops.NOT AAMCO.Someone is always willing to give a free opinion over the phone because it helps attract business.Sorry you already replaced all that stuff, but if you buy a new tranny, that truck will go another 20 years I bet.Good luck! Greg

That is a very good possibility.Cheaper than a tranny too.Sorry I didn't mention that at least. It should be a speed sensor or something that tells what the RPMs are for shifting so it doesn't wind out.No metal is a great indicator too.Sorry about that.If you decide I wasn't enough help or did not solve it properly no hard feelings.I am not in it to make as much money as possible.I answer at least 10x more freebies than $ ones.Good luck! Greg You must be in the south or out west to have a 1986.

1997 jeep Cherokee 4.0. Transmission does fine then after running for a few won't shift until 3.5 rpm then shift smoothly then can Shift manual and does fine like that.

Valve body problems. When engine heat starts to build in the fluid and metal parts inside the transmission, the valve body expands which will cause pressure problems.

1986 Lincoln Town Car drag shifts 1st to2nd. I just drained refilled trans, new filter and gasket, What would make the 1, 2 shift point go up to about 2500 to 3000 rpm's? it finally shifts then acts ok

I am not familiar with your specific car. However I would suggest checking the fluid level of the trans. If you do not have one get an owners manual or repair manual and make sure you are performing the check correctly. Some transmissions require a hot check, some require that you cycle through the gears just before checking, things like that. If there are special instructions you are not following you may not have refilled the trans to the proper level.

Code p0733 and code p0700 what is this and how do i fix

Sounds like pump problems in the trans or bad shift solenoids in the trans. So sorry to say but the trans needs to be taken apart. Maybe a SRTA (serviced rebuilt trans assy. )trans is better. It is a factory bebuilt with a 5 year 50,000mile warranty anywhere in the U.S.

Transmission shift from 1st to 2nd has hesitation

Look for vacuum leaks. There are tons of hoses, replace dried and cracked ones....

The trans shift issue that you describe seems that the trans is being told to hold back the shift, there is a unit at the end of the vacuum tube, AT the trans, called a modulator. They have a rubber diaphram inside that fails and then trans fluid gets sucked into the engine, via this vac. hose. Pull it off and see if any trans fluid comes out...Should be ZERO.

Also, your vehicle must have regular trans service, especially you must change the FILTER. Disk material eventually clogs the filter, then trans fails really fast.

You may consider having a quick lube shop do the trans service, they use a machine that pumps new fluid in while unit is running, totally flushing converter, cooler, and lines...but DO replace the filter.

To be fair, the service suggestion has nothing to do with yoru complaint, necessarily...

No. AOD trans from 1985 is hydraulic shift. You need to hook up the Throttle valve cable from the drivers side of the trans to the carb. Is this hooked up.

Trans. problem

3speed or 4 speed? does it slip or just not shift. Might be old seals or a bad governor. Try using lubegard trans additive. Try that for a week if it doesn't work, replace the governor valve.

Your speed sensor in your trans. needs to be checked out sounds like its not working or not getting a good signal until its generating enough power and speed to start until it reaches 30 MPH. Check that out sometimes it could just be some dirt on it. It all makes sense the ABS light is on because its not reading the speed of the tires, and the AOD light is on because It has no idea when to shift into overdrive without knowing how fast its going. I sure Hope that Helps You Out, And Thanks, Bear001
