are you saying it is not dripping or that you can't see where it's leaking from? if it is not dripping out, then it's going out through the exhaust--blown head gasket or cracked head. Is there coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant?

If you let the car idle on clean pavement for say ten minutes or so, do you get a puddle of coolant on the pavement? If so, where?
If not, do you have white smoke in the exhaust? (That would suggest a bad head gasket or cracked head or block)

At this age, a leak could be almost anything. You have two radiator hoses, two heater hoses, a bypass hose, the radiator, and the water pump. The last two are the most difficult and expensive to replace, the hoses are fairly easy.
When you first fill it up, does the low coolant light go out, only to come back on soon?

I assume that when you fill it up, you do not fill the overflow bottle above the "max" or "full" line.
With the engine cold, remove the radiator cap and fill the radiator, then fill the overflow bottle.

SOURCE: car running hot

There is a level /float sensor inside the tank.

Wait until the engine is cold, empty the coolant tank and rinse.

Refill will 100% coolant to the COLD / COOL / LOW mark.

SOURCE: 1996 toyota corolla--had to check the raditor

did you replace the thermostat when you put the radiator in,you could still have an air pocket in the system, recheck your coolant in the radiator when it is cold.
the next thing is to verify the cooling fans are working, when you see it hot check to see if it really is hot or gauge is lying,if it is hot see if the fans are running to maintain cooling temp,if they are not check coolant fan fuse and relay and last fan motors

SOURCE: digital dash reads out low coolant and runs hot.

it means just what it says..your low on engine coolant and that is causing it to run extra hot...this is not good! let car cooldown and take radiator cap off have a look inside with a flashlite..water level should be almost up to the filler neck. if you have the red dex-cool you"ll have to put in the same its not recomended to mix the green and red. if it doesnt your in luck just fill up a jug or get a garden hose and fill it up to the top if its low. leave cap off for now and put some water in the coolant tank if its empty only about halfway dont overfill. now start the engine and let it warm up for about a minute and see if the water level goes down if it does add a little more water up to the neck, now turn off the engine and let it stay like that for another minute to make sure trapped air can get out. Now put back on the cap. Now go for a 10 min drive around town and then see if the warnings have cleared and its running at a normal temp range. also park in a new locating so after you turn your car off you can check to see if its go a slow leak overnight.

On the Owner's Manual there's a procedure you have to follow to bleed the air in the cooling system, until you bleed the system for air, the low coolant light will come on every time.

The process is rather simple and quick, all you need is a flat head screw driver.

DO NOT OPEN THE COOLING SYSTEM WHEN HOT.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Coolant reservoir empty when sitting overnight

You must have a coolant leak. If there are no signs of a leak, you may have a gasket on the engine that has gone bad, and the coolant is being pushed out the exhaust system. The coolant expands when hot and cools when the engine cools. During the cooling stage the cooling system creates a suction on the coolant in the reservoir and draws enough coolant back into the system to keep it full. Apparently you are loosing enough coolant somewhere that the reservoir can not fill the system before going dry.

My husband and I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora. We just changed the oil about 2 weeks ago. He checked the fluids earlier and the oil was low and the car is running hot. What could be causing this?

If you changed the oil filter at the same time check that it hasnt come loose and leaked some oil though there would be signs of that where the car site. If it is overheating check your water as well.

Also check the oil for water and the water for oil as you will want to make sure that you havent done any head damage or blown the gasket.

Where is th low valve on the 2001 aurora 3.5

The anti freeze goes into the radiator, if the fluid level is really really low, otherwise it goes into the coolant expansion tank which is a black plastic tank on the passenger side of the vehicle, and will say engine coolant on it. You just pop the cap and fill to the line. Leave some room for the liquid to expand when it gets hot.

I have had this problem with my 98 aurora and have replaced all the same components. Temp gauge routinely shows 200 on highway (Fine) but in the city in stop and go will get to around 245. I installed a switch to manually turn on the cooling fans by connecting the ground to pin 86 in the relay for the fan(s). Otherwise the fans will not turn on to 245. This fix works but would like to know an actual solution.
