It's the fuel level sensor. I just did one. It's about 95 for the sensor. I'd estimate 3.0 hrs labor. I'm a Audi tech and did it quick. I didn't do the sending unit too but if you don't wanna pay labor twice I'd do it too while the tanks out. Chevys are notorious for fuel pumps dieing also. And also there will be a code stored when the sensor Fails and it might or might not set the check engine light.

The usual cause is the fuel level sensor. It is located in the fuel tank and can be serviced separately from the fuel pump. Some repair shops will try to sell you the complete fuel module which includes the level sensor and fuel pump assembly.Either way the fuel tank has to come out to replace the level sensor.Depending on miles and the year of your vehicle it might be a good idea to replace the complete unit. This could be costly.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I have a 01 cougar with the v6 and was wondering why my gas gage does not work? The low fuel light stays on but no gage movement. Will someone plz tell me where the fuse and the relay ( if it has one) are...

it sounds to me like the fuel guage sensor in the fuel tank , i think if it was fuse or relay you wouldn't have any lights on .if you car is sedan or station wagon I would likely guess that it is in boot under carpet there useuly is a plate that requires removing to inspect fuel pump , some cars have guage's and pumps as one unit. hope this helps a little.

Fuel gauge gmc

It could be a loose connection on the gauge or the fuel sending unit.
The fuel sending unit can get worn and have breaks in the contact area that is used to determine float position to send the fuel level reading to the gauge.
I suspect that you have problem with the fuel sending unit considering that the light is on. I am assuming that the light that is on is the "low fuel light". Check your connections at the sending unit if the connections are secure then I would suggest replacing the fuel sending unit.

2002 silverado, battery ran dead, boosted it ,now the security light stays on, battery light flashes, abs light is on, gas gage and temp gage dont work now

I'd try putting a good battery in and trying it. A battery with an open circuit or one excessively low can cause problems.

Check engine light came on, along with low fuel indicator.

I took the vehicle to the Jeep dealership, and the problem went away before they could check it out. They are going to check wiriing next, because the check engine light went out on its own, and the fuel gage began working corectly on its own. Not sure what caused it, but hope to have an answer from the dealer.

Check gage light comes on for 2004 chevrolet trailblazer''

Check gauge light can come on for a number of different things, from Low fuel to low oil pressure to high engine temperatures. When the light comes on check all the gauge's and see whats causing it, one or more of the gauge's will be showing an issue, Low fuel or low oil pressure, Low battery power. Any of the mentioned things can cause it... Figure out whats causing it then you can remedy the situation...

Gas gauge malfunction and engine light stays on

This is a common problem with Malibu's. It is due to cheap metal in the fuel gage that corrodes. Chevrolet knows about this but they refuse to issue a fix. The check engine light staying on and the faulty fuel gage are related. This is a defect and they need to recall this part! Raise hell with the dealership!

Fuel gage

They get gumed up(more so if they have sat for awhile) other than pulling them out of the tank. the easyest thing to do is add some antiguming fuel additive to your gas. it takes some time. It will losen them up.
