Follow the hot wire from the battery it may split but the one leading down to the bottom side of the motor will lead you to the starter. its generally on the passenger side.

TOYOTA IS NOTORIOUSLY KNOWN FOR BAD STARTERS!!!! OPEN THE HOOD AND HAVE SOMEONE CRANK THE STARTER WHILE YOU LOOK TO SEE IF THE ENGINE IS ROTATES, WHEN THE STARTER IS ON.
IF THE ENGINE TURNS VERY SLOWLY OR NOT AT ALL, THE ENGINE IS FINE. BUT, THE STARTER HAS A BAD SOLENOID AND IT'S NOT ENGAGING THE FLYWHEEL. THERE FOR IT'S SPINNING AT VERY HIGH SPEED MAKING A LOUD HI-PITCH WHINNING. BUY A NEW SOLENOID AND FIX IT YOURSELF!!! BUT TOYOTA WON'T SELLL YOU JUST A SOLENOID BECAUSE THEIR GREEDY!!! A NEW STARTER FROM TOYOTA IS AROUND $350.00. AT AUTOZONE AROUND $100.00 WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY! BUT IF THE SOLENOID SWITCH IS BAD IT COST AROUND $250.00 AT TOYOTA, & $99.00 AT AUTOZONE. ALSO CHECK THE THE STARTER RELAY, COST ABOUT $150.00 AT TOYOTA AND AROUND $40.00 AT AUTOZONE. PULL THE STARTER OUT AND GET IT TESTED AT AUTOZONE...( FREE!!!) " I'M ABOUT 100% SURE YOU STARTER IS BAD!!!!" GOOD-LUCK!!!
Remove negative battery terminal... Remove the small lead from the starter solenoid, and the large lead from the starter. remove the (usually 2) bolts holding the starter on. lower starter out the bottom. (now.. since toyota starters don't go bad)... remove the 3 screws from the end of the solenoid housing... and go to a starter rebuild shop. Buy 2 new copper contacts for the solenoid, and replace them... presto new starter for less then $20 bucks.

On your Toyota TRuck.
The Starter motor only have 2 Wires.
1- come from the BATTERY , Attached at the starter with a 12mm nut. constant 12v. normaly red.
The other one is Small attached to the Starter Selenoid , from the starter RELAY when starting.
Normally Black/white.
OK. If the Vehicle is not starting, Check the Neutro safetly switch.
LOcated on the Clutch pedal .
Inspect the Starter relay and starter Fuse, Located on the Engine fuse Box.
