What should I check with code 0455 for 99 Ford Ranger

The Evaporative emission system has a large leak allowing fuel vapors to escape to the atmosphere . There are hoses an a purge solenoid ,a vent solenoid ,charcoal canister to store fuel vapors in . The charcoal canister is located under the vehicle near the fuel tank an has vapor lines running to the front of the vehicle to where the engine draws in the vapors by the engine computer opening the purge solenoid ! Any of this vapor hose could have a hole (leak) ,the gas cap could be lose or bad . The fuel filler neck could be rusted through ! At the repair shop we hook up a smoke machine to the system an look for a leak like that ! easy !

What does this code mean p0455

Code 455 is a problem with the EVAP system - a large leak was detected.
The computer vents the gas tank to the vapor canister when the engine is running. It pressure tests the gas tank before and after venting.
It could be a faulty gas cap, or you could have started the vehicle with the cap off, or you could have a leaking hose or gasket.
The emission system may still be under factory warranty.

Jeep evaporative emission system fault P0455 caused a check engine light. How do I check what is faulty

P0455 indicates a large leak in your Evaporation emissions system. This system stores fuel vapor from the fuel tank in a charcoal canister where it is later purged and burned in the engine.

The most obvious cause for this would be a loose gas cap. If the cap is tight then you can carefully inspect all of the evap hoses for cracks. It is very common for these to crack and leak on all chrysler products.

If you don't see anything obvious than your next step is to have the evap system smoke checked for leaks. The smoke will be introduced into the evap system under slight pressure. Wherever the smoke comes out is the source of the leak.

If no leaks are found than the usual suspect is the NVLD (Natural Vacuum Leak Detection) pump. Another common failure on chrysler products.

Hope that helps!

Where is the EVAP emission control system

The EVAP control system includes the fuel tank, fuel filler neck, gas cap, charcoal cannister, evap diagnostic solenoid, purge solenoid, all of the connnecting hoses/lines, ECM and related wiring. Anything that contains fuel that may evaporate (EVAP).
Does the vehicle have a P code for some EVAP problem, like large or small leak, or vent path blocked? Do you have a problem filling the fuel tank or is the Check Engine/ MIL lamp illuminated? If there is a larg or small leak the best way to identify where the leak is located is to use a smoke machine which creates smoke and introduces it into the system and you look for the leak. You will need to close the evaproative diagnostic solenoid using a scan tool or a jumper harness.

OBD codes 442 & 455

Check all of your EVAP lines and the charcoal canister. Also check the lines and overflow line from the gas cap to the gas tank.

2000 cavalier check engine light code po440

P0440 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System

evaporative emission (EVAP) system has a large leak.
Check the gas cap or vent valve. these are the most common problems.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) at different times performs various tests on the EVAP system. OBD II Enhanced EVAP systems are in place to keep fuel tank vapors from venting into the atmosphere, and instead purges them into the engine to be burned. Regular pressure tests are conducted by the PCM to monitor the sealed system for leaks. The PCM monitors the EVAP system pressure by watching the Fuel tank pressure sensor (FTP). When the sensor indicates a small leak in the EVAP system, this code is set.

Here are some additional causes.

* A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
* A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
* The EVAP Canister may be leaking

Code 455 with low fuel level indicator light flashing comes on in my mercedes e 420

you have a leak in the fuel evaporative emission system. The fuel light flashes when the gas tank and system is not sealed, and the purge control cant **** vacuum or hold vacuum in the tank. Usually its the gas cap not sealing the tank correctly, the "activated charcoal canister shut off valve" wont completely close the system, or the "purge control valve" under the hood isnt opening/pulsing correctly enough for the engine manifold vacuum to create the vacuum in the gas tank

P0446 code

Ok code PO446 is your vehicles EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM the most common cause is the gas cap gor left offf and someone drove the car or the cap was not fully locked it will set the code
the other causes are leaking evaporative emission plumbing from the fuel tank to the engine compartment, someone changed the fuel pump and did not seal it properly,
Failure of a emission component in the evap system
The only way to diagnost these is an OBDII scan tool and a smoke machine the light will come on when the computer does its test of the system and there is a hole as small as .020"
1/20,000 of an inch !
The light can only be turned off by a OBDII scan tool
