It's called Brake Fluid Level Switch Try a auto salvage yard > Couple of buck's
Brake System Indicator
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the brake indicator when the following occurs:
• The body control module (BCM) detects that the park brake is engaged. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination. If the vehicle is shifted out of park with the park brake engaged, the BCM activates an audible warning.
• The body control module (BCM) detects a low brake fluid condition (signal circuit is low). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination.
• The IPC detects a low brake fluid condition (signal circuit is low).
• The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.

It should be on the drivers side and it looks like the oil dipstick. Usually the top of the handle is shaped like a " T ". Most of the time it will be yellow and say trans on it. It may be lower than the oil dipstick. Good luck.

SOURCE: 1997 Saturn SL1 very hard to start

jlwhelen,
I will suggest that perhaps the blue smoke is not purely oil. It sounds like you may have an ignition problem where the engine has a hard time firing until warmed. The blue smoke may be, at least in part, unspent fuel. I realize that a warm engine that uses oil will smoke blue, but excessively rich conditions on startup can result in a similar effect. If the choke circuit is delivering a little extra fuel from a dirty injector, the problem may be worse when starting from cold.
To remedy this, I would suggest a simple replacement of plugs and wires, as well as a fuel injector cleaner through the tank. I would bet money that these simple maintenance points would solve your problem.

Good luck!

SOURCE: 2005 Saturn Ion manual transmission. Has had tune

do the following, it fixes these kinds of problems, follow the instructions exactly.
Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Pathfinder 2004 gear not shfting from parking to drive

A possible inexpensive and easy solution to check first would be the Brake Switch, located on the floorboard right behind the Brake pedal. The Pedal may have become misaligned with the switch or the switch may have broken somehow and isn't lined up thus Not activating the release of you being able to shift out of Park. Or the switch is just broken.

Saturn Ion door lock is loose and is now pushed toward interior of door. Is it possible to access the lock mechanism by disassembling the inside door panel?

Both going from the inside or the outside are hard. I found going from the outside was easier. My wife's ion did the same thing. From the outside I found a brass U shaped piece of metal which, when I pulled the lock back out, slid over the top of the lock and, fitting under some ridges, held the lock in place. It was really easy. Just have to make sure that you don't lose that piece. The passenger side door did the same thing but my wife had had it previously looked at and they just removed the dislodged lock. Wish I had gotten to it earlier...

2004 Saturn Ion Power Steering

To fix the power steering problem with the 2004 Saturn Ion is simple, replace the power steering motor. It is held on with two bolts, one bolt is difficult to get to because it is hard to see. Remove the two gold bolts and unplug the motor. Put the new motor in and plug it in and you are good to go. The part number is: 20995579 and I paid $187.53 and it only took me 20 minutes. Twenty minutes because one bolt is hard to reach. You will find the motor up under the dash board where the brake pedal is, up by the steering column. You will have to lay on your back and look up, there are 4 silver bolts - leave those alone, they are part of the motor, it is the two gold bolts you need to remove. Good luck to all of you, it worked for me. You do not need expensive repairs or the entire steering column replaced!!! I reported this problem to Saturn and they are not at this time doing a recall. I am a 50 yr old female and did the repair myself!!

Brake Lights

The brake lights are engaged by a switch when you press the brake pedal. It is a plunger type switch, then when released, turns on the lights.

It appears that the plunger is not extending and making the connection. Try press on the brake pedal with one hand, and plull out on the switch plunger, see if the lights come on.

You should be able to replace the switch for less than $10
