Question about 2008 Saab 9-5

1 Answer

I have a 2001 9-5 SAAB V-6 turbo. I took it to the dealer and they said it needed the ABS Modulator, the speed odometer quit working. The abs light, park break light, check engine light , and TCS light stay on. But every once in awhile the lights go out except the check engine light and the speed odometer starts working. The dealer wants 2998.00 to fix it. I am wondering if I buy it at a junk yard for 200.00 will I assume to have this same problem again?

SOURCE: 1998 Saab 900se turbo

This happend to my car and it was the ABS module that failed. It does not harm your car you just don't have ABS. Try to replace the ABS sensor first since it is a lot less expensive and a lot less work. If that does not do the trick you will most likely have to replace the module itself. That cost big $$. A new one is about 1200-1500. I bought one from a wrecked card for 300 and it has worked fine for years.

SOURCE: Brake? Problem with 01 Saab 9.3

to begin i dont know what it means to say expensive or not how ever, all the lights at the same time could only mean one thing the problem could be in one of the diodes in your alternator is bad thus turning on all the lights on the dash board,

now regarding your brakes especially on saab;s shake or vibration is caused by uneven surface on the brake rotors (usualy the front) my suggestion is to replace the front rotors and the brake pads at the same time.

2001 volvo s60 failed accelerator pedal position sensor, p1633

This sounds like the ever familiar ABS modulator failing. However, VADIS doesn't list a OEM code with P1633 (it goes from 1632 to 1635). The 16xx codes normally relate to CAN bus or an individual controller. All ABS warning lights go through the ABS module, which is why you are seeing all three of those lit up.

Nissan pathfinder odometer/abs/speed sensor problems

If odometer is clocking distance while vehicle is not moving, it is vetting impulses from somewhere- usually a noisy ground connection- which may have been the cause of the fault in the first place. Especially if you are in the rust belt states.

TCS light on, ABS light on, brake light on, spedometer and odometer not working on my 2001 Saab 9-3 convertible, someone tell me which sensor is not working. Hate to take it to Saab dealer, all are crooks....

Well, it could mean that the emergency brake has not been fully released. The ABS system light is on if something has occurred within the ABS system. Something faulty may have happened there, get it checked out!

Abs light and brake light came on wont turn back off

There is a sensor at the top of the rear differential for the ABS system. That sensor went bad and replacing it took care of the problem. What caused mine to go bad was apperantly water got into the differential when launching and loading my boat. check to see if gear lube needs to be replaced also.
The answer above is perfectly correct. When the ABS sensor on the diff goes bad the speedo no longer will work, the odometer stops recording mileage and both brake and ABS light comes on. You also loose O/D or "Lock-up" in the torque converter. The sensor is inexpensive and can be changed in about 30 mins. Good Luck!
I second the second answer :) My ABS light was on, my BRAKE light was on, my CHECK ENGINE light was on, my SPEEDOMETER wouldn't work below 35 mph, then quit working alltogether. Once the speedomenter quit working the odometer and cruise control quit working. I replaced the rear differential mounted speed sensor ($33) and then reset the CHECK ENGINE light by disconnecting the positive battery cable for a couple of minutes. EVERYTHING then worked.
Replace rear differential speed sensor as follows:
a) remove parking brake cable bracket (1/2" socket)
b) remove speed sensor bolt (9/16" deep socket)
c) remove metal speed sensor cover
d) remove speed sensor from rear differential housing (use channel lock pliers, twist gently back and forth while applying upward pressure. Once the speed sensor has a small gap between it and the rear differential housing, insert a flat-blade screwdriver and gently apply upward pressure while gently twisting speed sensor back and forth.
e) disconnect speed sensor from speed sensor cable
f) lubricate new sensor with WD-40, insert into rear differential housing. It will NOT go in all the way by hand, so do NOT force it nor hit it with anything made out of metal.
g) replace metal speed sensor cover
h) Insert speed sensor bolt and tighten LIGHTLY until a small amout of pressure is felt. Tap speed sensor with rubber hammer until it pops into housing. Finish tightening of speed sensor bolt.
i) replace brake cable bracket, replace 1/2" nut and tighten
j) disconnect positive battery cable for 2 minutes, reconnect positive battery cable
h) start vehicle, enjoy,

2001 cadillac catera ebtcm removal how to

You need to remove the upper rad hose and the battery.
Then, use a torx to remove the 6 screws (hard to get at) which will remove the EBTCM from the brake modulator. You also must disconnect the two electrical connectors (the big one has a slide tab).
There are places you can send the module to and rebuild with warranty. I took a module from a 99' and installed it in my wife's 01'. Now the speedo, odometer, cruise and power steering work perfect and no TCM / ABS light.

Diagram of abs sensor

Sorry i don't have one but i can tell you that there are sensors in all the wheels and they work there way to the ABS modulator. If you are having ABS problem such as the light is on, you still have brakes but no abs. Check the lead wire to the abs sensor at the wheel where the sensor Reade's the speed ring at the hub. Most of the time the sensor get's dirty and needs just a good cleaning with a spray of Brake parts cleaner and if that does not work the sensor it self may need to be re gaped to the speed ring and of course check the wires for corrosion or any kind of damages. The last problem may be a bad ABS Modulator and will need to be replaced and that needs to be checked by a scanner. Good luck and hope this helps, if you have any questions. be glad to answer any.

ABS and TCS lights come on, odometer and speedometer stop working

You can fix this yourself, in a couple of hours with basic hand tools. You will need a rebuilt ABS module. Try this link for an under $500 repair. The dealer will want $2800, + labor.

Dashboard lights

does it light up like a christmas tree? I had a simliar problem last year on my 2000 9.5 aero. I beleive it was the tcs on, tcs off, emergency light, and 2 others, i forget now. After paying the saab dealer $800 to try and diagnose it, finally they came up with a faulty abs switch. Cost to replace was over 3k. I took it to my other mechanic and he found one in a junk yard for half the price. I had it replaced over a year now and it works fine.
Have them check out the ABS switch. I later found simliar info on the web of other saab dealers
