Code p0506 on a 03 grandmarquis battery light comes on and stalls.

P0506 - Idle Air Control System RPM Lower Than Expected (Electronic Throttle Control [ETC] Vehicles) The PCM attempts to control engine speed during KOER self-test. The test fails when the desired rpm could not be reached or controlled during the self-test.
  • Air intake restriction
  • Exhaust restriction
  • Engine mechanical fault
  • Damaged electronic throttle body (ETB)
  • Damaged PCM
This DTC is informational only and it may be accompanied by other DTCs. Diagnose other DTCs first. If other DTCs are not present inspect the intake air system for air or vacuum leaks and damage. If no concerns are present, clear the DTC and retest. P0506 - Idle Air Control System RPM Lower Than Expected (All Others) The PCM attempts to control engine speed during KOER self-test. The test fails when the desired rpm could not be reached or controlled during the self-test.
  • IAC circuit shorted to PWR

P0123 - Throttle Position (TP) Circuit High Input The TP sensor circuit is monitored by the PCM for a high TP rotation angle (or voltage) input through the comprehensive component monitor (CCM). If during key ON engine OFF or key ON engine running the TP rotation angle (or voltage) changes above maximum calibrated limit, the test fails.
  • TP sensor not seated properly
  • TP circuit short to PWR
  • TP circuit short to ETCREF
  • SIG RTN circuit open to TP sensor
  • Damaged TP sensor
  • Damaged PCM
A TP PID (TP V PID) reading greater than 93% (4.65 volts) in key ON engine OFF, continuous memory or key ON engine running indicates a hard fault. P0123 - ETC Throttle Position (TP1) sensor Circuit High Input The ETC TP sensor 1 was flagged as fault status by the PCM indicating high voltage.

P0193 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input (FRP) The comprehensive component monitor (CCM) monitors the FRP sensor circuit to the PCM for high voltage. If voltage were to fall below a calibrated limit and a calibrated amount of time during testing, the test will fail.
  • FRP signal shorted to VREF or VPWR.
  • FRP signal open (gasoline only)
  • Low fuel pressure (NG only)
  • Damaged FRP sensor.
  • Damaged PCM.
  • High fuel pressure (caused by damaged fuel pressure regulator) NG.
A FRP PID value during KOER or KOEO less than 0.3 volts for gasoline or 0.5 volts for natural gas vehicles (NG) would indicate a hard fault. P0340 - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1) The test fails when the PCM can no longer detect the signal from the CMP sensor on Bank 1.
  • CMP circuit open

The first problem you have is assuming that the ignition coil is the only thing that can cause a misfire.

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0316 is a "continuous memory only" code that indicates that there is a fault causing a misfire during the first 1000 revolutions of the crankshaft immediately after engine start-up. This should be accompanied by the regular cylinder misfire monitors (Codes P0301 through P0310) unless the misfire does not continue long enough for the regular misfire monitors to determine which cylinder is misfiring.

In order to determine what is actually causing the problem, you must have access to a scan tool that can perform Key On Engine Off (KOEO) fault testing and Key On Engine Running (KOER) fault testing as well as interfacing with the onboard engine computer to read live data and perform system tests.

Please note that generic OBD code readers DO NOT have the capabilities to do what you need to diagnose this problem. You will most likely get additional DTCs that can help lead you to find the source of the problem when KOEO and KOER tests are run. Generic OBD code readers can access only continuous memory DTCs.

Have you checked for spark on all 8 plugs? Unplug the exhaust side coil pack and run the engine. Does it run on all 4 cylinders?

Ok P0174 Is bank 2 (drivers side) is running lean
P0350 is an ignition coil primary circuit malfunction
P1127 indicates the HO2S heater(s) were not on during KOER Self-Test and testing of the HO2S did not occur.Engine not operating long enough prior to performing KOER Self-Test.
P1780 means that the OD switch on gear shifter was not cycled off then on during self test.
I would recommend re-running your self test and make sure to warm the engine up first and make sure to cycle the od switch on/off during the test and recheck the codes.
P0174 lean code could be caused by a miss-fire and P0350 could be caused by anything in the ignition(coil,plug,wires,etc.).
If the P0174 and P0350 repeat I would concentrate on the cylinders in bank 2. If you have a spark tester you could hook it to each of those plug wires individually and look for a weak spark. or try and unhook each wire one at a time and see if you can find a weak cylinder that way by the amount of rpm drop and replace the components on that cylinder and retest.
