Question about Jaguar S-Type

1 Answer

Bought a Jaguar S type automatic 2.5 2002 this evening. £3,000! Less than 10 miles down the road and it lost all power has burning smell. It proceeded to either drive very slowly or had no power to pull it at all. Couldn't get it home. Have you got any suggestions, please Steve

Honestly do not know ,take it back and get your money back i would suggest and take a couple of heavies with you ,another possibility is it has gone into limp mode because the oil or water has leaked out .

2004 Jaguar, Vaden Plaus, car just quit running going down the road. Had to have it towed home Won't start, turns over, just won't start, says Restricted Performance.

Sounds like it is some type of 'limp home' mode.
It could be anything. It might be as simple as a bad Fuel Pump Relay. When you turn the Key to the ON position (not Start) can you hear a little buzz for about 1 second? That would be your fuel pump running. You need to see if the engine is getting gas and spark.

Problems with jaguar s type

Did the smoke problem tend to happen when idling for a long time, like at a stoplight? I had a similar issue with a VW Beetle, and after going through all sorts of attempts to fix it, one of my friends finally solved most of the problem by switching me to a much lower viscosity oil.

The windows will fog up when the car is moving

Try to see if you smell coolant when it fogs up. You may have a slight leak in the heater core .

Suspension system 2003 X Type

That all depends on if you have the comfort or the sport suspension. The sport is a bit stiffer, and the comfort is pretty floaty. Now, repair shops will tell you that you need to replace the shocks every 50,000 miles, however they should be good for at least 100,000 miles. But, how to tell. There are 3 items to check- how much "dive" does your front end have when you brake? If it is significant, then you might be due. The opposite is true when accelerating off the line. Finally, push down on the front and back end with your hands, and if it bounces straight up, then you should still be good on your shocks.

If you have rattles from the shocks, either the mounts or the shocks themselves might be bad. You want to replace the shocks in either case.

Note, that replacing the shocks on the X Type is extremely expensive.
