Question about Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited keeps stopping and the gas guage is the only guage that quits working. We had the crank case sensor replaced and that didn't work. Sometimes we have to wait 30-45 minutes and it will start up. Sometimes it starts after a few minutes. Our mechanic had it for two weeks and couldn't get it to do it and as soon as we got it back it has done it 4 times in a week. Any suggestions?

In defence of yoru mechanic most times they do not have time or the shop owners dont aloow them to drive the vech long enough to duplicate the prolbem, I have found just letting a vech sit and running in my bay does produce the same effect as driving it does. But since you related the fuel gauge stops work when this happend i would first check to make sure the fule pump is not drawing to much amperage and shutting down. Then when it cools off it starts right back up.

1993 jeep grand cherokee limited starts for 2-3 seconds then dies. new fuel pump and crank sensor. It will run if ether is sprayed in intake. Fuel pressure is good. Can not "feather" gas...

Sounds like your injectors are not getting any signal from the ecu. Have you checked to see if you have a check engine light that illuminates when you first turn the ignition to on? If no check engine light is lit on your dash, your ecu needs to be repaired or replaced.

PCU replacement for Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ can probably get you the part. I would be more suspicious of the Crankshaft position sensor. In my experience, PCM on chrysler vehicles are very reliable with good self protection devices. (not that the never go bad) In 23 years of working on vehcles I may have replaced 3 or 4 on the Jeep/chrysler. 90% of the cases I have worked on with your symptoms ended up with a crankshaft position sensor. If the check engine light does not go out while the engine is cranking then you probably have no crank signal. It is located on the left side of the bell housing near the rear of the engine block. Will have two 10mm bolts holding it in place. New one will come with a piece of felt or paper stuck to end of it. This is for spacing purposes. Hold it in against flexplate and tighten bolts. Paper will come off when engine is turned over. Done
