It could be the turn signal switch, voltage goes from the brake light switch to the turn signal then to the taillights, use a test light and follow the circuit from the pedat to the sockets, also check the grounds

What number fuse is my brake lights in a 1998 mercury mystique fusebox

Sounds like loose wiring to either the earth or Postive connection in the main running wiring. rechk all connections particuarly yr pull off/on connections. Most fuses run at 10A for lights, but this depends on how many using this fuse. Chk that power is getting thru to various points with a meter, this will show u where the porblem lies. cheers

Can't find the fuse for brakelights on 2003 Honda Civic!!

look for a symbol of a light with a brake pedal next to it in the handbook or the fusebox cover, or maybe a circle with a pedal in it. it doesnt sound like the fuse though as the the centre light is still working from what i can gather and all three lights will be wired on the same cicuit so will have the same fuse. to avoid any wasted time and money i'd recommend checking the bulbs first, then i'd be checking for power at the bulb holder with a voltmeter or test lamp. hope this helps

My rear lights don't come on when i turn my headlights instead my 3rd brake light comes on

Hi there,

Your rear brake bulb wiring is connected to the high stop light, but when your problem occurs, it usually means there is a short in one of the brake bulbs (or associated connectors).

Firstly, inspect the brakelight fuse (just in case the rear lights are on a separate circuit).

Secondly, check for blown brakelight bulbs (and replace if necessary).

Thirdly, remove the bulbs and ensure they are the correct type (i.e. the bulb contacts must match the bulb holder - usually double contacts). If you have the incorrect contacts type, this will cause a short also.

Hope this helps...

Brakelights are not working, only the high brake light works

First thing to check is fuses, i know one lamp works, but maybe the two main lamps have their own fuse, doesn't hurt to check.

Getting at the bulbs is easy, open your rear hatch (door) and you will see a few screws holding each rear lamp in place, once all screws are removed the lamp needs to be carefully pulled out, there will be some sort of clip or clips holding it in place, so don't just yank it off, slowly pull on it until loose.

It's a good safety precaution to disconnect your battery just in case. Then to remove the bulb, normally its a quarter or half turn and the bulb comes right out for you to look at. You can use a multimeter, and (with battery connected) turn lights on and see if there is power at the bulb. if there is replace the bulb. if not, then you have other issues; wiring, fuses ... could be many different things.

I hope this helps you. Sometimes you can see the filament in the bulb is broken, but a lot of the time the bulb can look fine but have a broken connection (aka an Open) elsewhere in the bulb. Get a battery and wires, connect them to the bulb, see if you can get light.

BRAKELIGHT STOPPED WORKING,CHECKED FUSE IT'S NOT BLOWED BUT THE THIRD BREAKLIGHT WORKS,WHAT CAN I DO.

Check and/or replace the bulb.

The fact that the third brake light works is a good sign that the circuit is fine, at least as to that point.

I have a 1995 monte carlo and the brakelights wont work but the brakelight in the back glass works we changed the brake light switch and that didn't work

Have you checked to see if the ground wire from the brake light harness in the trunk came off, broke or loosened up? The third brake light has it's own ground wire. That's why it still works. Have you checked the fuse? Just throwing some suggestions out there. Best wishes to ya.
