Good god people!

Glow plugs means not gasoline being burned, you will truly ever find spark to be the problem; I will only credit one of the answer guys for even being awake and on point enough to have a clue, the answer involving the coolant temp is the right one, I however will suggest another angle on living with this symptom: spill about two tablespoons of gasoline onto a clean rag and hold that over the air intake, crank it it will start. This will not harm anything and will confirm you have a faulty glow plug timing issue, and for the love of sanity buy the shop manual and follow the troubleshooting flow chart, the best answer will be there.

Why don't astro wana start when raining or damp out

its because one or more glow plugs are failing.
locate the glow plugs and remove them and u will see the difference.
dry and black =working and wet oily = not working.
glow plugs are only used to start a cold engine once started its fine for the day.

By boeinga1 on Nov 17, 2010 2001 VW Diesel Golf TDI. Car started no problem. Drove to gas station. Stopped for gas. glow plug light wouldn't come on, engine wouldn't start, engine turning but not starting....

i think glow plug replacement needed. ever used starting fluid in cold to start?try this, next time no start, cycle your key and let the light come on, wait till it goes off, turn key again until light goes off, if you have to do this more than 3 times, and it runs fine, replace the glow plugs only then. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

Toyota hilux 3ltr diesel,i put new glow plugs in about 3 weeks ago & it fixed the starting problem going fine.now it just started not starting when it is cold checked wiring has power to glow plugs...

Double check your fuel filter and replace as necessary. Also replace your coolant temp sensor. I would also pull out each glow plug and bench test with heavy cables and make sure they do glow red. It very well could be a couple of the glow plugs have failed due to quality. Let me know what you find.

I'm working on a 1985 6.9. the problem is that it will not start with out a little small spray of ether. After that it will take right off. we replaced all the ijectors and bleed out. any idea wat might be...

My initial thought is that the fuel is bleeding down because the "O" rings are leaking or the fuel lines are venting. This causes a dry start.

You should check your glow plugs and the timer for the glow plugs. In particular the timer should stay on longer for colder weather. I understand that since 1985 Ford has come out with a heavy duty timer that will stay on longer and really heats the glow plugs.

Also check your battery voltage. The glow plugs can't get hot without proper voltage.

The problem is the glow plugs are bad or not coming on. Even though the "wait to start" light comes on, the glow plugs may not come on. I have found when this happens, the light comes on for only 1-2 seconds and goes off. With the engine cold, the light should stay on for about 5 to 7 seconds. The colder the engine, the longer the plugs should stay on. There is one glow plug for each cyl. The plugs are in the "V" of the engine and screwed into head. Only one wire goes to the glow plug and the wire runs from one plug to the next on each bank. You test them by removing them and grounding the body and putting 12v positive to the terminal. The tip should glow red hot like a cigarette lighter. There is a glow plug relay behind the air intake horn which also could be the problem and there is a engine temp sensor in the circuit also.

The glow plug light flashes while the engine is

this means you most likely have a burnt out glow plug or glow plug timer control or both

2003 toyota avensis diesal . dificult starting from initial start

I am assuming this a cold weather only issue ?? Turn your key to on before cranking it over for about 5 sec to let the glow plug heat up a moment. Not allowing the glow plug to warm will wear out your starter.
