Question about Mercury Sable

I have a 1999 Mercury Sable that will not start. When I turn the key it does nothing, and I have already changed the starter. Any ideas on what it may be?

HI, Have you checked the battery is it fully charged? Have you tried to start the car while you move the gear shift selector to neutral these neutral safety switches are known to go bad on these car. have you checked to see if the starter relay is getting power or if the relay is bad? (it can be found in the fuse box under the hood)

Need more info.

Does the engine crank over?

Do the headlights work? If not, jump start it with jumper cables. Let the car sit for 15 minutes with the jumper cables connected so it can partially charge the battery of your car. Then try to start it.

Check the battery cable connections and clean them too.

99 sable won't start, replaced battery, starter, alternator, but still wont even crank. code reader also said map sensor so it was reset worked for alittle but now nothing

If the car does not have a security system, I would check for voltage at the starter from the battery and from the key switch.
The power from the key switch goes thru the neutral safety switch before getting to the starter.

you may have to go to a lock smith because one of the tumblers on the key switch has dropped and it could have just been a bad switch I had a similar problem on an old aerostar and I ended up replacing the whole steer column and took it to a lock smith before I installed it so the keys matched
