Possible that the fuel delivery is poor. so get the car tuned properly with proper fuel and spark setting.
it will be ggood to change the fuel filter .. found in line to the fuel pipe before the fuel pump.
clean or change the plugs, reset the gaps and checck the timings .
The car should act better.

No , if fuel filter were clogged it would cause a lack of power all the time . Have exhaust ( catalytic converter ) checked . Partially plugged , well get worst .

No power from take off, sluggish

Changed your fuel filter lately? Deisel motors take a regular filter change as they collect water in the fuel and become clogged leading to bad performance and eventualy a no start condition.

Generally, fuel problems cause an engine to lack power.
If the check engine light is on you should have it scanned for trouble codes. The fuel filter should be replaced every 30-50,000 miles and the air filter checked at every oil change.

Could be a handful of possibilities: When was last service - tune up and filters changed? Sluggish on highway suggests possible fuel filter. For the record filters, plugs etc should be changed every 30k. From what you're telling us, you've been running on borrowed time.

Hard to start, sluggish, does not have immediate power/response when pressing gas pedal.

Could be either of those. But being intermittent, it could also be a wire from your car's computer system.
