I found this article on the internet that might be of some help

There is a 99% chance that your problem is broken wires where they bend when you open and close the trunk. Specifically for this problem you will find a broken wire that is white with a black tracer, which is the ground. You need to check all of the wires in that area. They are by the left hinge, carefully cut the black insulation back to check the wires and repair as necessary. You will want to pull hard on all of the wires because sometimes a wire will break and the insulation will still be intact.

Code P1780 - PNP switch malfunction

PNP is short for park/neutral switch, if working right will allow current from ignition switch to starter, in park or neutral, where ever the shifter is at, colum or floor, is where the switch is at, hope this was very helpful.

SOURCE: toyota camry 1997 3.0 v-6 code p0446

That code is for the evaporative emmisions system. Here is a link to an open forum you can go to, this will help you understand what it is, and why. The vehicle on the site is a van, but the code, and parts involved are one in the same, so don't worry about the difference in vehicle. The van is a toyota, and this is the information on the p0446 code. Hope this helps you.

Hi; The material has clips holding them in place-some are 1 use only(in other words they get ruined removing the press in thread type part) and some have reusable(in which case there is a little dimple in middle-push that in with a tiny screw driver/pick type tool & grab outer part & pull out. Good Luck-JT

Park neutral position switch

Yes I would agree the trans selector switch has failed, provided the wiring is good.
The license plate lights would be on a different circuit tied into the regular tail lights.

Camry code 1780

This is a problem in the Park/Neutral position switch or wiring.

Apparently Camrys of your vintage often suffer chafing and breakage of the wiring around the rear trunk lid hinge, driver's side. The backup light conductor there chafes and breaks, which the ECU sees as a fault P1780.

I HAVE A TOYOTA COROLLA 2003,CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, CODE P1780,HOW CAN I FIX IT

P1780 Is the indication that the neutral safety switch has failed. It is mounted on the side of the transmission where the linkage is attached. replacement is the normal fix. This part is a bit pricey and you might get lucky looking in a salvage yard for a used one.

1780 code

P1780 Park/Neutral Position Switch Malfunction (Only For A/T)
This code is related to a malfunction with the park neutral position switch, it's located on the transmission.
It maybe easier to get a Chilton manual from the autoparts store to locate the sensor/switch. The book runs about $20.
Replacing the switch/sensor may resolve the reverse light problem also.
