This sounds like a motor mount is broken.

Sounds like you have a broken motor mount, to check open hood, then with your foot on the brake and parking brake on, put it in drive, give it some gas don't let the car roll and have some one check the front motor mount, the front motor mount will be towards the button of the motor by the radiator, id it separates bad motor mount, replace it, hope this was very helpful.

Almost sounds like you have a busted motor mount.
Good test is to get one person in the car and the other standing next to it with hood open. While holding your foot on the brake, put the car in drive and slowly press the gas pedal. You will be putting torque on the mounts and if one is bad you will see the motor trying to lift up.
Hope this helps.

My 97 Ford Taurus is having automatic transmission problems. reverse works perfect, but after taking off the engine revs up & takes a while to shift, then it drives fine until i have to stop. The other...

could be a good move to have the transmission oil changed
next move is to have the fault codes read to determine the sensors at fault
new transmission --no --from your description , you never mentioned any strange noises so it will not be necessary to go that path
It will be electronic problems not mechanical
take it to an accredited professional transmission shop , have the codes read and get a proper diagnosis done

Car won't go unless in low gear; have to put it in low gear and eventually it will go in drive.

I had that same problem on my ford taurus, I changed the transmission fluid and it was fine, the vehicle takes if i remember correctly 13 quarts of transmission fluid, most cars only take five so definitly check that, hope i could help, good luck!

Have you changed your transmission oil and filter in a while? Would be a good idea to do so, hopefully you have caught this in time before it is a costly repair to you.

Engine Rev Trans does not grab going Forward

We had the very same problem and I found this post somewhere on the net and it worked! After ours stopped going forward, it went in reverse fine too then it stopped moving completely. We just pulled the sensor off today and are looking for a new one but at least the car goes great now. 15th Jul 2007, 21:04 Bought my wife a 99 Ford Taurus at auction. Like others the Transmission sensor gave out. A temporary quick fix is to open the hood, and simply pull off the sensor connector plug on top of the transmission. The transmission will now operate properly in both OD and drive. You will notice your rpm's are steady as your speed goes up - loss of fuel economy due to the failed sensor ( to technical to explain here...). Two things to do: Change out the old transmission fluid immediately - its gonna require synthetic fluid at a higher price, but is worth it as it shifts far better now. And change out the coolant. In fact, I suggest changing out ALL of the fluids and start clean. Until you get the sensor replaced your fuel economy will **** for a while, but its better than not having wheels at all and it IS safe to drive.
