Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I'm having trouble removing the battery from a 2003 Jeep Cherokee. I've removed the cables connecting to the post, but there is something holding the battery in place. Where are the pieces/screws/Bolts located to remove?

Look at the base of the battery, there will be a 13mm bolt, remove that bolt and the holding bracket, and battery will come out, that bracket is there so the battery don't tip over while driving, hope this was very helpful.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, on occasion while attempting to start I get full power and lights on the dash but starter will not turnover. If i boost the jeep from antoher vehicle when this happens it...

The following assumes you have a top-post battery rather than screw-in battery terminals on the side of the battery.

The battery may be new, but if excess side torque was applied to the battery post when the clamps were installed, the seal around the post may be cracked. Battery acid and fumes leaking through the crack (even if it is microscopic) cause corrosion between the post and connector. Try removing the battery cable clamps and cleaning them and the posts with a battery terminal cleaner brush. If you see corrosion (yellow or yellow-white crust) on the battery post, you have a cracked seal. Wipe everything around the post with a disposable rag, then coat the plastic around the post with petroleum jelly (but not the post. This will reduce the flow of corrosive chemicals onto the connection.

Another possibility is that the battery cable clamps were not thoroughly cleaned when the battery was replaced, and now the corrosion from the old battery is causing problems.

If you are removing or installing terminal clamps on a post-type battery, you must avoid putting a bending force on the post. That means when you turn the wrench or socket on the clamp bolt, you must hold the battery clamp with your free hand and use it to exert a force in the opposite direction from the wrench to keep the post from "bending." Failing to cancel the sideways torque on the post, as I mentioned above, will crack the seal around the post. Since I began observing this precaution, I have run batteries for a full lifetime without any terminal corrosion problems.

Installation of a battery

very simple job. youll need a 10mm socket, a 10 inch extention, ratchet, a 1/2 wrench or 13mm wrench, flat screwdriver.

first you must loosen the nuts on the battery cables but do not remove. wiggle slightly and pull upwards on cable to remove. you may need to use a flat screwdriver to help pry it off. remove the negative cable first to minimize any sparks. once both cables are removed, then use the socket, extension, and ratchet to remove the battery hold down bracket at the bottom of the battery. pull out battery and put new battery in place. reverse procedure for intallation

How to replace 2001 Jeep Cherokee radiator

There is a removable radiator support brace at the top. There are 4 nuts that hold it on. One of them also holds the battery retainer on so you need to remove that as well. You also need to remove the coolant recovery bottle transfer hose from the brace. It is sometimes a good idea to remove the fans too as they are close to the rad and they can damage the rad if you touch the fans.If I forgot something just post me back..

95 jeep grand cherokee laredo 5.4 replaced alternator and battery and cable still have dead battery every morning Please help

the best way to look at this problem is with a12 volt test light then remove the ground cable from the battery turn every thing off inside the car close all doors and remove keys then connect testlight to battery cable and touch the test light point probe to the negitive battery post if test light lights up for more than three seconds and stays on you have draw on the system. dont panic it maybe just a glove box light or door switch. if suspect a circuit simply un hook it retest again .if you open a door that will make light test come on recheck all doors closed. if you still have test light on locate fuse box and remove one fuse at a time until test goes out while holding door switch in.when locate circut use wiring diagram to assist from ther. if the light does not light up check altenator output volt meter shoud be 13.2 -15.5 volts when running.
