Hi, you will need to replace the battery as it is cracked if its leaking water and acid. This is why it will not hold a charge. If this auto is over heating, and the water and antifreeze is at is proper level and over heating, that's the place to start is to buy a prestone flush kit and clean out the cooling system. If it over heats after you continue on, you may have a faulty thermostat or the radiator may need to be rodded out by a shop.I would try to clean it your self first as this may solve your problem at little cost to you. Check your hoses to see if they are weak by grabbing hold on them as they have a spring inside that prevents them from colappsing closed as this will cause it to over heat. You may have to have it checked by a mechanic if it continues after you have done these checks as there are other things that cause over heating like a head gasket, warped head, cracked block and so on. Check your water pump for any signs of a leak from the bottom hole. Make sure you use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze. I hope I have given you some direction to follow. Please don't forget to rate me and I know you will be kind. Good Luck,

Thank you Shannon for your rating and I hope it is not something that you will need a shop to repair. Its best to flush the radiator first, check hoses, and look for places around the water pump for leaks. If you have kept the system with anti-freeze and you don't have a lot of rust in it that's a good sign, but if not it could be the cause of this problem. Check and do as much as you can as far as a pressure/chemical flush and a rust inhibitor, with a 50/50 mix and see how it goes. Keep me posted on the out come.
    Good Luck,

2002 ford taurus battery wont hold charge cant figure out if its the battery or alternator

While the vehicl is running with a meter ,,check the voltage across the battery you should have 13.5 to 14 on the meter..You can have the battery load tested at autozone or advance for free..If the battery is bad and you keep jumping it off,,you will burn up the alternator ..Also when its running do you see a battery light come on,,thats a indication thats its not charging

I have a 2004 taurus, wont start and it looks like the starter is leaking fluid

look at whatever is above the starter for any fluid leak,, first clean all connections to the battery , then the connections at the starter,, if that doesn't help, make sure the battery is charged enough to actually turn the motor over,, if it is and still no go,, you can check the starter circuit and any fuses that are in line with it, (look under the hood next to the battery for a fuse box ) if they are all ok, the leak may have shorted out your starter, remove it and either bench check it by grounding the case and supplying 12v to the solenoid post on the starter itself,, Be careful if its ok its gonna jump,, so hold onto it or lightly place it in a vice for support , if you don't know how to do this, Take it to any of the many auto supply stores that will bench check it for you

I have been having trouble with my battery in my ford taurus holding a charge. I have checked the alternator, had the battery checked and charged by a shop, I baught a multi meter and when I turn the car...

Check & see if you have a faulty mercury switch in the trunk or under the hood. Remove the bulb & check for current loss with your meter at the battery. If the current loss has stoped then you have found the problem. In other words, your light may be staying on when the trunk is closed or the hood is closed. Good luck!

Battery draining when off. We have recharged battery 3 times. Have tested the battery it is good. After the recharge it is dead.

It is quite likely to be a faulty diode within your alternator. This can easily be checked by disconnecting your alternator, then leaving the car stood overnight with a freshley charged battery.
If the battery holds its charge, replace the alternator.

2001 ford taurus wont start

It could be bad plugs, plug wires, a bad ground will do this as well. Check to see if it has the three main things.

Anther common problem is the crank shaft speed sensor. It will cause it to not spark and not start.
