Tail Light/When I BRAKE The left Directional STOPS

Ernest, a lot of the time when this happens it is telling you the bulb burnt out or wire/socket is faulty(bulbs can look OK so it is best to test them if you can). Check/clean for corroded ground wires in that area also. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

2004 Ford Ranger - My break lights and directional signals are not working. My head and tail lights do work. Any advice on what I should check?

Most common is a bad signal light/multifunction switch failure. The brake lights are wired into the signal light circuit within the switch

Brake lights do not get brighter on my GMC 1996 sierra on the driver side only nor does my turn signal. I have changed the lights with no luck. Please help.

Your bulb contains 2 filaments; one for your brakes and one for your running or tail lights. If you try the hazard lights and the tail light flashes, the bulb and its wiring are ok but the control system is faulty.

The most likely cause of this problem is the directional relay which controls the brake, flasher and directional lights. Failure can cause a multitude of problems with these lights.

The part is located below the steering wheel inside the lower dash towards the left side of the wheel. Check around as this part is a bit on the expensive side and has updated part numbers from the original.

I hope this helps with your question.

Car was off...parking light, tail light, and directional arrow inside came on and wont turn off?

Maybe the battery inside key fob needs changing. It sounds like its to do with the alarm / immobiliser.

I have an 85 Mercury Grand Marquis and I have no tail, brake of back up lights or rear directional. When I turn on the headlight switch, I get 12 volts at the tail / Brake light (1157) at all three wires....

You may have a defective turn signal switch, all these circuits run through the switch and on occasion I have repaired a Ford or Two with this same symptom when I was working for a dealer in the middle 80's.

99 silhouette.all bulbs are in working order.right (not left) signal flashes fast when headlights are on and even worse when brakes depressed(lights on or off).also lights on both rears are real strange on...

I had similar symptoms - rapid flashing of directional when headlights on and brake depressed when making a left turn, both directional indicators in dash light dimly when brake depressed, "Check Traction Control System" indicator On even with ATC turned Off and "strange" indications in tail lights.

Check the pins in the connector at the Lamp Holder Assembly for your Rt. Tail Light for arcing and corrosion. (The female pin is in the vehicle harness connector and the male is part of the Lamp Holder Assembly.) If found, because the male connector is part of the Lamp Holder Assembly, you'll have to replace the Lamp Holder Assembly and the harness section coming in from the vehicle containing the female connector.

I just repaired this problem in the left tail light on my '01 van with a part from a '99 van I found at a local salvage yard.

Trailer lights have two wire out of each fixture left turn goes on left side Right hand turn goes on the other side Tail lights connect how and brakes connect how?

One wire is for the brake/directional filament and the other wire is for the tail light. The fixture should be grounded when it is attached to the bracket. To test which is which (the brown wire is USUALLY the ail light) make sure the fixture is grounded and touch a hot wire to each of the wires coming from the fixture. Watch to see which wire lights up the brighter filament and this is the brake/directional light. The dimmer filament if the tail light. Brakes lights and directional lights are both the same filament. Wen the brakes are applied, both lights are activated. When a direction light is turned on, it simply flashes the brake light filament.

Rear tail lights

Yes, The tail light works on a different part of the bulb than the brake light. That bulb has a burned out tail light filiment. Needs to be replaced.
