This 1999 Ford Explorer came in with the complaint that the driver's side low beam headlight was not working. I haven's seen this problem in several years.

Anyways the problem occurs on vehicles with the driver information module. These vehicle use a lamp outage module to report to the driver, that a bulb is blown.

The module is not too hard to find once you know what to look for. First unsnap the drivers information panel and rotate to the side.

Next, lift the cup holder panel up and away.

The lamp outage module is located on the right inner side of the center console. It is held in place by two phillips headed screws. The picture below shows removal of the rear screw. Use a magnetic screw driver or an extra magnet to keep from dropping the screws.

The front screw.

Grad ahold of the module connector and rotate the assembly up and out of the console.

It will have "Lamp Outage Module" printed on it.

Locate the faulty solder joint or joints and resolder as needed. Double click on the image below to enlarge. The faulty solder joint is the top right one with the black ring around it.Drivers side Low Beam not - ceb1249.jpgis the actual crack in the solder.

Hope this help to solve it.

One low beam head lights will not work, high beam works though

check for a damaged wire for the low beam. Also wouldn't hurt to check the ground wire as the high beam will try and ground through the low beam but not visa verse

HIGH BEAM LIGHT STAYS ON IN DASH ...SWITCH GOES HIGH AND LOW BUT ONLY WORKS ON HIGH (ONE LIGHT) AND NO LIGHTS ON LOW

I have the same problem and I've tried two fixes so far and neither has worked.
- I replaced the daytime running light module and that didn't work
- I replaced the trun signal/hazard/light switch and that didn's work

I've had one comment that it could be a ground issue.
hope this saves you spending money on "fixes" that don't solve the problem

Drivers side low beam is out but high beam works fine

Sounds like a bad bulb or connector to the bulb. I would check the connector make sure its not burnt or melted and then change the bulb.
