The cable housing has to be locked in place at the beginning and the end destination. If either one is loose the cable won't pull

2008 Pontiac Vibe battery is dead. Can't pop hood with hood release to even get to battery. How else can we get the hood opened?

What is wrong with hood release?
Sometimes I use vice-grips on hood release cable, have a helper standing at the end of the hood. At the same time you pull the release cable, have the helper pop the hood in area of release mechanism with palm of hand, sometimes that works to open hood. If you get it up, lube everything.
Some makes and models, I can remove front grille and reach the release mechanism. Don't know about your vehicle?

I need to know how to remove Freon from a 06 GTO.

You can't do it yourself. It is illegal to vent Freon into the air. you have an 06 GTO that should have R134 in it. That can be vented by locating the high or low pressure fitting on the line coming from the A/C compressor and, using a tool, pressing the plunger on the fitting.

There is an emergency trunk release cable behind the passenger rear headrest. That should get it open for ya.

I have a 2006 Pontiac GTO. I can not open the hood. When I pull on the plastic hood release lever the hood makes a click but it does not pop. What can I do to fix this?

Cables stretch with use so they sometimes get critical with age; this problem is common to remote releases in general.
Have a friend press down with flat hands on the front of the hood while you **** on the release. It may be necessary to 'bounce' the pressure on the hood, keeping in mind that our sheet metal is pretty thin anymore. If you can get it open, lubricate the latch mechanism with a good lubricant (NOT WD-40 which dissipates). This may give you some relief for a while.

Broken hood release cable. How can I open the hood manually?

The cable is held in place by a metal bracket. If it cam off the bracket it won't work.

Look behind the part you pull and you will see the wire and the outer part of the cable. The end of the outer part of the cable has a groove neer the end. This groove slides onto a slot that is located just behind the pull latch. Once you see it it will make since on how it should go.

You can also grab the outer part of the cable and pull the inner wire. If you can pull the wire almost out, then it is broken. But the chances of that are very low.

Hood release cable broken, how do i open the hood ?

I have a similar problem with my 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The way I open the hood is to reach my hand between the radiator and the front of the car, and for me there is a bar running right up the middle if I follew that too the top, and on the drivers side of that bar should be the hood release, and I feel around till I feel the hood release cable, and then I push on the lever that the cable is attached too, most of the time this works. Hope this helps.
