if the car cranks it is not a starter or a battery problem. A car needs 3 things it start . gas ,air ,and spark. do you hear the fuel pump turn on when you turn the key to the start position. car you have some one spray starter fluid in the throttle body to see if you have spark..if you do not hear the fuel pump then that is the problem. if you have no spark. then you need to check a few things. crank position sensor, cam position sensor, ignition coil,

Centry 3300 starts and then quits. New fuel pump, filter, pressured reg computer.

This is usually a sign of a bad crank position sensor ( first choice ) or cam position sensor.

Also a problem with the antitheft system or alarm immobilizer will do the same thing.

1. Monitor the 5v reference, Gray wire to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) with a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) set to the MIN/MAX setting.

2. Monitor the TPS signal circuit, Blue wire with a DVOM. Voltage should range smoothly from approximately 0.44 to 5.0 volts as the throttle is opened.

3. Tap test the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and see if the codes come back or if the engine reacts.

The check engine light should be on--rent a scanner, read out the codes, and pursue to repairs. The one sensor you didn't mention is the camshaft sensor. It is a hall effect device and depends on a magnet passing to generate triggers. It is combined with the crankshaft sensor and they work in tandem with the CPU to generate firing. Maybe the magnet came off of the camshaft? If you have access to an oscilloscope, you could look for pulses from both sensors where they go into the ignition module--terminal 'G' for the crank, and terminal 'K' for the cam signal.

Locate crank sensor on 1990 buick century

Hello, the crank position sensor or (CPS) censor is located directly behind the harmonic balancer (or fly wheel at the very bottom). The sensor is located on the right side of the harmonic balancer when facing the front of the motor. You must remove the harmonic balancer to replace the sensor. You must also re-align the sensor with 30 thousands of an inch tolorence, or your car may idle rough or may not start. I own a 1990 Buick Century and just replaced my CPS sensor last month. There is a trick I learned to reinstalling the new sensor. Let me know if you need that information.
