Question about 1999 Honda CR-V

2 Answers

Can I drive my 1999 Honda CRV with the compressor belt off, apparently the compressor is jammed up and the auto parts dealership deemed it to cost $1403.99 to replace the compressor. I'm wondering if I were to drive it with out my air condition working. I also want to know if the Compressor belt is removed will that create a problem with fluid cycling through the engine. I was under the impression that just the Alternator Belt, and the Power Steering Belt were all that was actually required for the car to run seeing as how Air Conditioning was optional on these models. Thanks for your time, Joseph

IF the compressor is the only thing that the belt runs, YES, you can leave it off. It will not affect the enguine at all.

Air conditioner does not work

My wife 2003 Honda CRV did the same thing about 3 years ago with about 70k miles on the clock. Anyway, hot summer day, blowing hot air. I took the car to the dealership, they replaced the whole system under warranty even though the car was way past warranty period. Apparently, the AC system was defective, Honda will replace them on as-needed basis instead of recalling all of them. I was suprised they did all that for free. Try the dealership first. Good luck..

Honda CRV V reg There is a bad judder through vehicle when turning steering on full lock when moving & there a cluck from the auto box not on drive take up but rolling starts or on kick down

The judder could be many things, check the power steering fluid and power steering belt.

Also on the gearbox, check the fluid. this could be the slave cylinder on it's way out or it may just need bleeding through.

Hope this helps

If your compressor is bad it needs to be replaced. You have several different options. 1. Run to a local auto parts store, buy a new compressor and have someone install and refill your system. 2. Buy a used compressor from a salvage yard have it installed for cheaper but more likely to go out faster. 3. Keep going to the dealer who will more then likely go to the same auto parts store buy the same part and increase the price on your invoice then charge you more per hour to install it then the local mechanic that's a block away. 4. The local mechanic might be able to put a smaller belt on and bypass your ac compressor. Putting the smaller belt on doesn't always work. Only on some vechiles. And on a personal note, if that dealership wants a $1000 for this job, I would consider that highway robbery!
