Question about 1992 Ford Ranger

How many bolts are holding the engine to the tranny and is there anything else that could be causing the engine not to be released from the tranny

6-8-10? Auto? manual? if all bolts are out, its just stuck and will need to be pried apart.

Get the factory service manual it will explain in detail the procedure, however a quick run down. Remove kick down cable, remove any associated hardware attached to tranny, Disconnect the battery, jack the car up onto jack stands, remove shifter cable, remove lower control arms, remove half shafts, remove bolts holding torque converter to engine, remove bolts holding tranny to engine, remove tranny mounts, lower transmission onto tranny jack and pull away from vehicle.

How to take out a transmission


Are you sure you got all the bolts out? (Transmission to engine block bolts)
Everything is removed from tranny until only the tranny to engine bolts are left. That is the last thing to remove, then the tranny and torque converter should slide back and away from the engine block. There are metal dowels between the tranny case and engine block-where the two mate up-these dowels can rust and stick, but a little prying will move the tranny back away from the engine. Make sure everything is removed from tranny, then check that all bolts are removed. It is easy to miss a bolt.

How do i remove the transmission from a 2001 ford taurus


this is a big job,you will need to dissconnect the battery, then you will need an engine support bar to hold and lower the engine from the top. you will have to remove the battery and the bracket and also airbox, next is to raise the car and remove the wheels and then seperate the lower balljionts on both sides, remove the axle nuts and remove the axles. then remove the swaybar ends, next is to put engine support on the top of the engine and then remove the frame from under the engine and trany, before the frame can come out you will need to remove the exhaust system and also unbolt the steering rack from the steering shaft, make sure to lock wheel so it doesnt turn,remove lines from rack, when you remove the lower frame the steering rack and all the frnot end componets like the swaybar and lower control arms will come out with the frame you will need to unbolt the front and rear engine mounts, leave the trany mount bolted for now,after the frame is out you will then remove the bolt on the trany mount, this is the mount where the battery sits at the rear of the tranny, lower the engine slowly and just a bit. next is to remove the starter and flywheel covers, you will then remove the converter bolts that hold the flywheel to converter on tranny, next is to remove the tranny bbolts, make sure to leave one bolt on for now.next is to lower engine support enough so that the tranny has enough room to come out, next install tranny jack under tranny and remove last bolt holding it,then pry away from engine always checking to make sure all bolts are out and also all wire connections unhooked, like wiring harness to tranny and selector switch connector and speedometer connection, and tranny will seperate and then you slowly lower to ground, to install reverse directions. good day.

did you change your pressure plate some times pressure plate has installation clips ,that should be removed once plate is bolted up make sure also bell housings the same size

How do i check the transmission fluid and change it in a 2005 chevy colbalt, and where does the speedometer cable connect into the transmission at?


There is no dipstick on this tranny (4T40E). On the passenger side of the tranny just beside the output axle seal, there is an 11mm 7/16" bolt head. With the vehicle running in park remove the bolt. If tranny fluid runs out it was over filled. On the top Drivers side of tranny, there is a red plastic cap (marked vent). Remove and add fluid here if low. Once the fluid runs out of bolt hole its at correct level. To do tranny fluid and filter change, loosen off all the pan bolts, drain. Filter is located under pan. Do not remove the bolt with engine off, it will lower the tranny fluid level. Fill with approximately 6.5 qts or lts. Start engine, remove bolt, let run out, when it quits its full. This doesn't change all 16qts ( the torque converter and valve body hold 8 or more), if you want complete change, get it flushed at a shop. It doesn't have a speedo cable anymore either. It has VSS's (vehicle speed sensors) in the tranny and also use wheel speed sensors in the ABS system to calculate speed for different systems. ABS, Cluster, Cruise control, Tranny shifting etc.

I have been told my starter is broke but i dont know where it is or how to fix it.


Ok, this is simple to find. Walk out to the truck, crawl under by the tranny, on the right side. Most Chevy's are there. Between the engine and tranny, is a fly wheel(giant gear with lots of teeth. The starter should be there. Very easy to replace. Undo the battery cables from the battery( don't want to short anything out), then undo the wires on the starter. Now, you will have 2 or 3 bolts holding the starter to the block of the engine. Remove those, and take starter out(CAUTION: make sure there are NO shims there(small thin metal between starter and block. If there are, SAVE them) Now replace the starter(PUT those shims back when replacing starter), bolt back to block, and re hook the wiring. now reconnect the battery, and start your engine. Take about 30 to 45 minutes of your life. Not hard at all

How do you remove the radiator from a 97 explorer? Namely the plastic brckets that hold the rad and air cooling coils together?


There is two top brackets on the radiator. Once those are off, it should pull up. Unless the bottom has bolts which usually it's just mounts that you don't have to do anything with.
Then disconnect radiator hoses and the two tranny cooler lines to remove it. If needed, remove the four bolts holding on the fan shroud and remove it.

Ford Taurus Transmission Removal step by step


its quite a job, but hopefully this helps you, i have already replaced my gfs transmission on her 2000 taurus once and i need to do it again, ford really sucked on these transmissions. if you jack up the car high enough to give you about 21/2 feet of pllay under the car it would be good, take the tires off, take the calipers off, disc brakes, nut on axles, rack and pinion to the spindle, shocks, everything that will get in the way when you bring down the bottom frame. under the hood, i take out the intake air box and battery with battery plate so it gives you room to disconnect the shift cable and all connections that need to be disconnected. now remember when you bring down this frame its going to come down with motor and tranny, so you gotta either get an engine hoist or put some blocks under the mottor,take the starter off, take the torque converter cover off from the bottom its right in the middle of the motor and tranny 2 screws, there are 4 nuts honding the torque converter in there so you will probably need the help of someone to turn the main pulley as you look for those 4 nuts, take all bolts holding the transmission in place, take axles off, 2 big nuts for the rack and pinion, 2 nuts for motor mounts (if you are under the car they are holding onto the squared frame, use a engine hoist to hold on to the motor and use a jack under to hold the tranny, now this is the tricky part, you might want to use a second jack to hold the frame, as you take off the 4 main bolts for the bottom frame leave one so it dosent come crashing down, if you have everything secure, take the last bolt off as you have the jack holding it in the front in place, when you take it off then bring the jack down slowly making sure you got all bolts and connections, once that is down make sure all bolts and connections are disconnected from transmission, there are 2 metal hoses that go into the front of the transmission that are a pain to get out, squeeze the 2 little plastic ears that it has as you try to pull the tip out, play with it cause sometimes they are a pain, once you have that, double check everything and you can wiggle the tranny to make sure its loose off the motor if it is, take precaution and bring the jack down slow to bring your transmition down. hope it helps if you know some basics of mechanical.

How do i remove mitsi gto gearbox


Remove air intake hoses to throttle body, remove battery tray, remove washer bottle attached to battery tray, remove clutch slave cylinder and compensator from the top of the tranny. Remove tranny gearchange control cables and hang up to one side.
Jack car up as high as you can and remove the wheels. DRAIN the gearbox (24mm not on bottom side).
Now go under the car and remove the starter motor, remove the exhaust front pipe (can unbolt from front CATs and let hang down), remove frame member and remove the plastic covers from the passenger side wheel well to get to the frame member. Remove the lower control arm bolts on both sides and let the control arms hang down. Disconnects both sway bars at the wheel hubs to allow the drive shafts to be pulled outwards. ease the drive shaft on passenger side out with pry bar and have someone pull on the hub to pop the drive shaft out. On the drivers side, you have to first remove the intermediate bracket on the block and then do the same thing with the drive shaft to pull it out.
Support the tranny with a jack.Remove the four bolts holding the tranny support bracket (covered with four grommets in passenger wheel well). Remove the three bolts from the top of the tranny and remove the bracket.

Now work your way around the tranny and remove the bolts holding it to the engine (there is a 10mm phillips screw/bolt holding a dirt sheild in place under the rear of the tranny, the other bolts are more obvious).

Tranny is now ready to be lowered to the floor using the floor jack.

Installation is the reverse of the above. Good Luck.

What could be holding my tranny to the motor if all the bolts are off? its a 1992 vigor standard transmission.


ah, it could be stuck a little, use a little force, could of missed a bolt in a weird place, or it's at to much of an angle and you need to release some of the tention in order for it to slip out.
