For my 2005 Corrola with the same problem, all it turned out to be was a dirty MAF sensor. Your check engine light may or may not be on too. Its right under the hood under two philips screws. Get a can of MAF sensor cleaner at any autoparts store and clean it up. You want to remove all contaminents, not add any with standart electrical cleaner. When the MAF sensor is dirty the cars computer feeds less gas because it senses less air. That simple for me.

It looks like your engine needs an overhaul. You can confirm by doing a compression test.

While driving along mostly up hills and or pulling my 2002 dodge ram 1500 5 speed tends to loose power. What could be the cause of that?

All vehicles will lose a certain amount of power when going up hill or towing depending on how steep the hill or how heavy the load. Do you shift down when needed.

you have higher torque need when pulling the vehicle up hill but less going down because it does not require as much power to hold your van back. Hope this helps
