    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the steering wheel.

    2. Remove the trim panel on the lower left side.

    3. Remove the steering column casing lower section.

    4. Press in the retaining hooks on both sides and remove the switch.

    To install:

    1. Press the switch in position until the retaining hooks engage it in place. Make sure that the ignition switch is correctly positioned with respect to the steering wheel lock.

    2. Attach all electrical connectors and install the plug.

    3. The remaining components are installed in the reverse order from which they were removed.

    4. Install the steering wheel and connect the negative battery cable.

    E30 Models

    1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Disarm the SRS when working on the steering column, if equipped.

    2. Remove the steering wheel, the trim panel below the steering column and the steering column lower casing.

    3. Disconnect the ignition switch harness and press the clips in securing the switch. Pull the switch off the lock assembly.

    4. Check the position of the switch and install in reverse order.

    E36 Models

    1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

    2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to disarm the SRS when working on the steering column, if equipped.

    3. Remove the lower dash panel mounting screws and then pull outward on the left side of the panel to release and remove the panel downward.

    4. Remove the lower steering column cover mounting screws, then remove the cover.

    5. Wearing eye protection, clean away the paint covering the ignition switch set screws. The screws are very small and the paint acts as a locking agent and must be thoroughly removed.

    6. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, loosen the screws about 4-5 turns and slide the switch away from the steering lock cylinder, then detach the electrical connector.

    To install:

    1. Slide the lock cylinder in place, but do not force it. If the cylinder does not seat, turn the ignition lock cylinder slowly with the ignition key until the switch seats. Test the switch operation before locking in place.

    2. Tighten the set screws until they seat snuggly, be careful to not overtighten.

    3. Apply touch up paint over the screw heads as a mild locking agent.

    4. The balance of assembly is in reverse order of removal.

the relay is onboard the BCM - and not seperately serviceable.

I have given you the procedure to change the cylinder.

It may be faulty if the owner's keychain is overloaded.

    THanks!!

Bmw z3 1999 will not crank

The problem sounds like the battery has run down. Even though the ignition is off, things like clocks and the radio draw small amounts of power to retain their settings, and the instrument cluster doesn't draw as much power as the starter. It usually takes about a month or so to drain the battery. Try jump starting the car, or put it on a battery charger for a while.

I own a 2002 BMW 3.0 Z3. As I prepared the car for Spring, the following appeared in the digital odometer space, "EEP_1". I called the dealership and they were unable to tell me. Any idea as to...

This is actually a common problem with Z3's. It has nothing to do with the emissions systems, it is a fault with the instrument cluster, sometimes causing one or more gauges to stop functioning. It very rarely sets off any diagnostic codes, and many dealers don't even know how to address it, usually just replacing the entire cluster. Call around to a couple of your local BMW dealerships (don't even bother calling local repair shops) and speak to the service manager. Ask if he is familiar with the problem. Hope this gets you on the right track. Good luck.

The dealer should test all the sensors to know is they are work well in clude the sensor in spare tire. And make sure the tires are good the tire pressure are OK. If there are more than one sensors are fault but only one was replaced. the light will still keep falshing.
