Question about 2004 Ford Explorer

3 Answers

Please I have been waiting for instructions on how to install a dipstick tube in my 2004 ford explorer. Does anyone know how to do this, is there a video or some kind of helpful instructions? I need the specifics with this kind of setup. The original one simply broke by pulling the dipstick out of the tube. This thing is so cheap its not funny. Its very frustrating. Please advise

Hello! Screw a screw into the broken part in the block...Just to give a grip to pull out the broken part...The new tube (has an O ring) and is merely pressed into place...This is a common fault...The tubes are fragile and break easily...Guru.....Saailer

The tube or the dipstick? the tube is quite a job, you probably dont have the tools or know how to do it. I would a suggest a repair shop to replace it. The dipstick is easy enough.

How to check and add ATF

Best to do this when the engine/transmission are warmed up. Park it on a level surface and, with the engine running, shift into each gear and then put it in Park (emergency brake applied). With the engine running, pull the transmission dipstick out and check the level against the cross-hatch pattern on the dipstick. Just like checking your oil. If it's low, add proper fluid by pouring it into the dipstick tube until the fluid level falls within the cross-hatch pattern. Do this a little at a time so as not to overfill it.

How do i find transmission dipstick for 2003 ford explorer

It does not have a traditional dipstick and tube. Ford changed over to using a plug in the side of the transmission like manual transmissions use.
There are some DIY videos on YouTube.

1992 ford explorer is missing the part where you cant insert dipstick

The dipstick tube. are you sure? If that tube was gone you would have fluid all over the ground.

Transmission oil coming out the funnel

If you mean it is coming out of the fill/dipstick tube, then quit driving this car. You will trash the transmission, if it hasn't already happened. Usually when this happens the transmission cooler inside the radiator has busted, and is pumping coolant into the transmission. Then again I have seen some people just overfill it to the extreme. But either way it needs to be checked. This involves dropping the transmission oil pan.

While changing transmission fluid i found an yellow half ball with an stem on it and cant find were it came from,2004 f150

The plug you found is a stop plug that is installed in the dipstick tube hole when the transmission is built. After the transmission is put in the truck, that plug is pushed out into the pan when the dipstick tube is installed.

No worries, you can throw that out. Most people never hear about that because they don't change their own fluids.

Need to know how to check oil in transmition in a 95 ford aspire

Check the engine oil level every time you fill the gas tank. The car should be on level ground when checking the oil.
  1. Turn the car off and wait several minutes.
  2. Locate the engine oil dipstick and withdraw it from the tube.
  3. Wipe the dipstick with a clean rag and reinsert it in the dipstick tube.
  4. Remove the dipstick again, hold the dipstick horizontally and observe the level of the oil.

Fig. 2: Observe the oil level on the dipstick and add oil if it is low

  1. The oil level should be at the FULL mark on the dipstick.
  2. If the level is at or near the LOW mark, replace the dipstick and add fresh oil to bring the level up to the FULL mark. Do not overfill.
  3. Recheck the oil level and close the hood.

Good luck, and remember rated this help!!!

Need to fill up the oil

You can fill the oil down the dipstick, it goes to the same spot and some vehicles just use this to fill the oil, I'm not quite sure on this car but if you can't find it then I would give a 90% chance that it is expected to be filled from the dipstick tube. You will need a funnel,

Please let me know if you need any further help with this.

thanks
