My 1998 dodge durango is blowing out alot of black smoke that is dry. It leaves black spots on driveway when cranked up. also noticed that it is stalling slightly when trying to take off and often goes dead when coming to a stop or slowing down. Gas milage is also very bad all of a sudden. we have canged the cat converter and sensors on the cat converter. any help would be greatly appreciated.

3.9 ltr V-6 running very rich, acts like it is choking out when trying to accelerate and blows black smoke. Is this a fuel problem?

Yes, the engine is being overfuled if blowing black smoke. Possible internal leak of fuel pressure regulator. Possible sticking/stuck EGR valve. Possible computer supplying more fuel due to a sensor supplying false information. A scan tool will be required to determine if one or more sensors is supplying erratic info

2004 dodge durango 5.7 hemi runs real rough white smoke comes out then blows oil cap off.

Ah oh..white smoke is water in the cylinder and cap blowing off is compressed air in the crank case..sounds like you have a blown head gasket or intake or both...have your radiator and block pressure tested..if gasket is leaking it will fail to hold pressure.. Check your oil for water sometimes a bad intake gasket will let water in the oil.good luck..

2000 dodge durango, a/c compressor stopped working after freon was added, did I do something wrong?

at a rough guess you add excessive amounts of freon and that caused the compressor to seize up
gas is added using pressure gauges and not by the can
besides that did you use the correct gas as the r134a runs at a much higher pressure and will deliver liquid back to the compressor which is not good for the operation

My 2000 dodge durango 4.7 has started to use alot of fuel. It surges when driving on the road. Codes have said that bank 1 and 2 are burning to lean. Also at startup black smoke comes out the tail pipe....

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak or a mass air flow sensor that is dirty... i would be inclined to check the mass air flow sensor for being dirty as it seems to actually be running very rich.

Drove my 1998 yukon last night and parked in the driveway where it sat thru the blizzard chicago had last night.tried to start it this am but no luck. checked spark, fuel @ the shrader, battery, ground...

pull dist cap off and dry with a hair drier. also make sure air cleaner is clean and dry. You dont need to unhook plug wires just tip cap on side and dry with heat. and also check ign wires plugs for moisture which shorts things out.

Heater don't get hot ,one hose gets hot ,but not the other

more thank likely if your heat isnt getting hot then your heater core is going out. i have a 98 durango and just had to have the heater core replaced because it was blowing cool air.

do you notice the smell of antifreeze? is the passenger side floor board wet?

Acceleration problems

the usual culpit is a clogged fuel filter, or bad plugs. if it bogs down on hills or highway it is the filter. also make sure air filter is clean.
