Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

Jeep Cherokee Limited 2001. The fan was cutting out. I was told it was the motor, it was not. I moved a few wires by the silver box by the passenger foot area, it would go on again. The wires became warm, then started to melt, I unplugged them. They still are in Ok shape...not melted together. The plug in area that goes into the box is a bit ruined. I assume there was a short, but after I cleaned up the wires, plugged them in, there is no fan. Did i burn out the box with the wire short or cause something else to screw up?

The reason the wires got hot is due to a shorted fan motor, the fan can still operate even when part of the windings that make up the field of the DC motor are shorted, this causes the fan motor to draw allot of current and that is why the wires got hot, definitely replace the fan motor and then see if the controller works, based on what u say i would replace the controller and connector to it, a repair connector if needed can most likely be ordered from the jeep dealer, u can also do a used part search to lessen the cost.

You must repair melt damaged wires, and replace the silver box by the passenger foot area because there seems to be the root cause of the short circuit. Check also the fan acting relay for damages & replace if necessary!

What besides the blower motor can make the ac not work on a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited not work

There is an electronic fan speed control module screwed to the blower. It's hard to remove under dash. I took it to workbench and found bad solder connection. I resoldered it and re-installed it. Working fine for over a year now. Saved $350. But hard work.

I replaced the resistor box and 2 green and one blue wire. all i got was a spark no blower and a blown 40 amp fuse help 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited

Either something was mis-wired, or you have a shorted blower motor or a cut in the wire insulation that is shorting to ground. I'm amazed that a 40 Amp fuse is used for the blower motor - that is a lot of current for a motor that size. (13.6 Volts times 40 Amps is 544 Watts for a fan?! There must be some other stuff on that circuit or somebody put in an oversized fuse.)

Check out the fan, maybe is not working, about 1 year ago same happened to me, changed many parts but keep getting hot and finally found that the fan had a short circuit and sometimes didnt work.

There is a connector between the fan motor and the fuse box eliminate the connector instead directly join wire to wire

2001 Grand Cherokee Limited a/c Blower Motor

Check on Ebay for Jeep Grand Cherokee Harness Kit. The plug on your harness may be melted like mine was. I bought this kit, followed the instructions in his ad and it worked great. All I had to do was cut off my old plug and solder this one on. Even the wire colors matched so there was no guessing.

2001 Grand Cherokee Limited a/c Blower Motor not working

Try wiggling the connector on your Blower Motor Resistor. They are known for having a bad connection and melting the connector. Check on Ebay, I bought a new harness kit on there. It was easy to install, just cut off the old connector and splice in the new. The colors match so there is no guessing which wire goes where. Only cost me $12 and saved me $300+ that the dealer wanted.
